reply to travel out of state

Have had cc for over 15 years. Been from Pennsylvania to Florida more times than I'd like to think about. Have never been concerned. Check the web for most current regs, but, my last check (last year) only showed that Maryland does not recognize other state's concealed carry. I unload and lock up for the 10 miles I run thru Maryland

MD does NOT recognize any cc permit other than their own hard to get one.

You can cite FOPA but only if the gun is unloaded, locked in the trunk or equivalent, and with no ammunition near or in the same container.

General advice: Do not have any gun, ammunition or gun accessories in view in the car. In one case in MD, an officer stopped a PA car for speeding (85 in a 55 zone), spotted a speed loader in the dashboard shelf, and searched the car, finding a gun in the console. The judge ruled that the speed loader was probable cause to assume a crime was in progress. The guy was convicted, but I forget the full outcome.

Drive reasonably and with traffic. Don't stand out or drive in such a way as to practically beg the cops to stop you. Don't display "cold dead hands" or "off the pigs" bumper stickers. If you want to be inconspicuous, don't drive a flame red Ferrari or a beat up VW bus with marijuana plants painted on it.

In other words, act sensibly and the odds are that you will never have a problem.

Try to avoid MD, that's all I can tell ya. Unfortunately that's your destination, so oh well.

Cannot carry in any way, shape or form in MD. As a matter of fact, you can get tagged if the cops pull you over and find out you weren't on your way (directly!) to a range or just passing through the state.

My friend wrecked his truck in MD after he blacked out due to his kidney failure. His P22 was in the center console as he forgot it was there from the last range trip. We're still waiting for his court date.

Keep it unloaded, mag separate, locked in a box in the trunk. Bring it in with you at night or just leave it there if you are out and about.
