Traveling I75 FL to TN; where to stop for ammo?

Im seeing more and more often that some areas are overstocked when most areas are on a major shortage. Seeing how I will be covering many many miles, I figured I would ask and see if I might pass by any of these places. That said, does anyone know where I can stop and check for the sought after calibers?

I imagine that there aren't many places known to have ammo in quantity, so maybe just big chain stores that MIGHT have them would also suffice. Ex, Gander Mt. which I believe is outside of Knoxville; not known to have massive stock, but the store is big enough to have some possibility.

Hopefully I can go shooting on my vacation! TIA

Well, if you find anything in GA, espcially north of Atlanta, send me a PM. Some of the smaller mom & pop places have a little. Walmarts have a few boxes of 270, 30-06 etc., but most handgun and 223 ammo is gone from all the regular places I visit.

Check out North Ga Reloaders. You can also order online. Not sure their current inventory, bit they seem to have more in stock than anyone around here. They are just before you get to TN.

Also, the Academy's around here have had some, but are still limiting to one box per person of each brand.

Ill let you know if I find anything. I have mapped out walmarts along my way, as well as Gander Mt and Bass Pro Shop in TN.

I will check North GA Reloaders; thanks for the tip!

Had a thought. You could try www.georgia-arms.com They show everything out of stock, but they manage to have tables at N GA gunshows. They probably have some in stock if you walk in. I'd call 1st. They are in Villa Rica GA. A bit West of Atlanta near the Alabama line.

You might find some at Adventure Outdoors in Smyrna. http://www.adventureoutdoors.us/

It is worth the short drive over there even if they are out of ammo. It is less than 5 miles West of I-75. It is the 1st or 2nd exit once you get outside of I 285. Take the Windy Hill exit, left at end of the ramp. Take a left onto South Cobb drive and it will be about 200-300 yards on the right.

There is a Bass Pro in Macon as well. You'll need to stay on I-75 through Macon. If you take the bypass, you'll bypass Bass Pro.

There is a Sportsmans Warehouse only 2-3 miles off I-75 in Chattanooga as well. They were pretty well sold out last time I was in there, but that has been a month ago.

You might find something at one of Pickett's Weaponry in the Gainesville (FL) area. Jerry's Pawn Shop in Ocala has a lot of guns and ammo in stock- but you can guess WHY he does.......... There's a Gander in Ocala but some ammo has been very hard to find. There are some small gun shop in the Orlando area, Sumterville/Bushnell area and then Tampa - if you are going that far - that might have some.

Many folks swear by Shoot Straight, many also swear at them

Of course, you haven't said what you are looking for - if it is the basic handgun stuff like 9, 40, 45......well, you might get lucky, or you'll find a lot at prices that might make you cut a day off the Disney visit....:eek:

@Jmr40
Villa Rica is a bit far out of the way for my trip, but you're right about Adventure Outdoors it's just outside my path. I will certainly give it a stop.

Ill be skipping Macon, but Ill be hitting a Bass Pro in Kodak, TN.

Sportsman's Warehouse is also on the list.

Thanks!

@BigDinFL
Small world; Im actually in Old Town, not far from Newberry. Which is where Pickett Weaponry is located. Here for a couple of days before I head to TN. SO tomorrow Ill be stopping by Pickett.

As for the others, Im already too far north.

And yes, Im after the hard to find. 223, 556, 9mm, 22lr. Basically the impossible. I did however find some locally, but they were no-name and almost $30; no thanks.

This all makes me want to go get an AK74. Seems you can still get 5.45 surp fairly cheap; and more apparently can still be found.

Anyone have an AK74 they want to remove from their collection? :D

I now have 200 rounds of 223 and 50 of 9mm. Heavent even left on my trip yet. 223 was 13.99 a box and the 9mm was 19.99. From Pickett as recommended; thanks!

Not rubbing it in; just pointing out there is still hope of finding some. Even only 30 min away :)

Academy Sports in Chattanooga, TN had probably 30 boxes of .223 the other day, only one catch.
one box per person per day, so i had to send the wifey in to grab another one. She said she didn't feel bad though, there were about 6 other wives in there buying the same thing
