transporting carbine...

I live in california and will be travelling through los angeles a lot for a new job. There is a range on the way home from work that I would like to go to as I wait for traffic to die down. My question is, when transporting my firearm (most likely a Ruger PS4), can I store loaded clips in my range bag or would the firearm be considered loaded? Do I have to empty the clips for the firearm to be considered unloaded?

The relevant law seems to be this:
A firearm is deemed loaded when there is a live cartridge or shell in, or attached in any
manner to, the firearm, including, but not limited to, the firing chamber, magazine, or clip
thereof attached to the firearm. A muzzle-loading firearm is deemed loaded when it is
capped or primed and has a powder charge and ball or shot in the barrel or cylinder. (Penal
Code § 12031(g).)

If the clip is in my range bag, its not attached to the firearm. Also, does the carbine have to be in a case? The law seems equally ambiguous on this too. If someone knows any of the relevant case law regarding these two questions, I'd appreciate it.

In Kalifornia, if you have a loaded magazine in the same vicinity as the firearm, the firearm is considered loaded. To be on the safe side, lock the gun in a gun case, and lock the loaded magazine in another. Or get a carry permit.
