Federal law allows the transportation of a legally owned weapon through local jurisdictions where said weapon ownership or carriage might be prohibited by law.

Yes that's very true. There are Maryland counties, such as Montgomery and Prince George's. where the local authorities seem to believe their rules supercede federal law. We lived there briefly. I was detained at the shooting range by the PG police for possessing Glock hi cap mags. The worst part? The law was called by the owners of the range.

Maryland

Spot on regarding Maryland. I was going to warn you about that state. I used to live there and the gun laws are Draconian. I now live in Ga. 180 degree opposite. I sometimes flirt with notion of retuning to Maryland but shudder to think of the guns I would have to leave behind after 20 years in Ga.

so your saying that its cool that i bring it down there with me for a little target practice and to tease my father in law huh. haha. i love busting his balls.

I still have a hard time seeing why NJ requires a "firearms ID card" and oh yeah Republic of Kalifornia has now joined NJ in requiring you register ammo every time you buy, and if you buy more than 200 rounds, you get red flagged and reviewed by the police without your knowledge. :barf:

Yup, Arnold signed the bill. I think it takes effect in 2012. So I figure next year there will be a rush on ammo sales toward the end of the year and after that Nevada, Arizonda and maybe Oregon will experience increased ammo sales. I don't see a problem with buying a case on my returns from Reno, or Stateline.

Once you get here no one will care you have a gun as long as you use common sense and carry it or transport it according to to law.
IE if it is not concealed with a CCW, your on first base.
Shoot where legal and safe, that is most anywhere except some national Forest areas other than hunting.

This link to the North Carolina Rifle and Pistol Association leads to more info on NC laws.

The one that blew me away when I first moved here was that you needed a concealed carry permit to keep a gun in a locked glove compartment. - Otherwise the gun must be visible on the seat or dashboard.

Richard b, its not so unusual since Virginia says the exact same thing. I never quite figured out the logic behind that, but laws not always about making any sense.
