Transitioning to 1911 from SIG platform

Hello all:

I am thinking of buying a 1911 platform .45. I have been carrying SIG's in various calibers for about 14 years now. My question really is about how long will the transition take and what drills should I practice that would be relevant to mastering the 1911. If I like the 1911, I plan to make it my carry gun. Give me your opinions.

Mainly you just need to get used to the different (aka better :D ) trigger and practice manipulating the thumb safety until it is second nature.

...and remember; the thing where your SIG's slide release was? That's the safety. The 1911's slide release is where your thumb is looking for the decocker. ;) ;) ;) (Why does SIG just have to be different from everyone else on that one detail? )

Yup, practice dry. With the Sig, you're already used to decocking before holstering. Now you have to get used to safety-off when drawing and safety-on before reholstering. That and be careful if you prep the trigger -- it's light and short, not much travel there. Also, the slide stop is in a different spot. If you're used to slingshotting the slide, you can still do that. If you're used to using the tiny, ill-placed Sig slide-stop, then you'll have to adjust.
