Transferring Rifle Out of California

I have a rifle that I want to transfer to a relative, that lives out of state. A gun store said to just send it to him. Is this the correct way? As I would rather spend money to do it right, then to kept my butt out of jail.

Thanks,
Garrett

If it was me, I'd spend the few extra bucks to do an FFL to FFL transfer (probably cost ya around 10-15 at each end).
That way everything is on the up and up and you can't get hassled or threatened for violation of postal/shipping regs and such.

Plus, you minimize theft potential. A legal glitche/mistake/harassment would cost you way more than the extra $30

You cannot just send it to him legally. If you are selling (transferring) it to him then it must be shipped to an ffl (doesn't have to shipped by one). If you are retaining ownership and are sending it to a relative that you will be staying with so that you will have your firearm to shoot while you are there, you can legally send it to yourself at that address.
