"TRAILER PARK AR"

Has anyone else heard this term describing the mini-14? I know that I read it in a gun magazine once in reguards to the cost and the fact that is was not an AR. I have one that I have modified and enjoy it very much. I am now looking at an AR myself. (COLT $799) So this is not meant as a bash in the least. Does the term fit? Opinions always welcomed!!!---DAROGUE1

I don't think the term fits...the only reason guys bash other guns is to make them feel better about what they have. Like the people that buy an HK SL8 just so they can brag that they have the latest thing. There's always someone out there with better gear than you so why bash someone else's? If it works for you use it. If you can't shoot an AR worth anything and you rock with the Mini 14 more power to ya

I actually prefer the Mini (got both). Reliable, handy, cheaper, accurate enough for use, fun to work on. Also, I like wood and blued steel.

I do shoot beter with it simply because I prefer the lower sights on the Mini. The high-line sights on the AR always seem difficult to snap-shoot with for me.

I'd take a mini over an AR any day. It would be nice to have both though.

I have to get me one of these "TRAILER PARK AR's" :D

You know I dont ever recall anyone I know have trouble with their Mini14, but I know ALOT of people that had problems with their AR......

hmm Makes you wonder doesnt it??? Well not really.

Anything based on the M1 operating system HAS to be good!!!!

I used to have to qualify with a Ruger Mini 14 and although it isn't the most accurate rifle out there, it will certainly do the job.

There are many more people who have trouble with AR's, but then there are many more AR15's in production by several manufacturers. You are bound to have more problems with all those rifles by different manufacturers floating around. The AR can be one extremely fickle beast at times.

My only complaint with the Ruger Mini 14's are the way you change the magazines. I much prefer the drop free type of the AR15 series.

I'm swearing off of bashing Mini's. AR's just aren't for everybody. I owned a Mini Stainless Ranch once; gave it to a friend for his pubescent son to play with. Fortunately, the guy's still my friend.

I shoot a Bushy Shorty, using only my own reloads. I never have failures and find the AR lots of fun. Easier to disassemble and clean than the Mini; more accurate than the Mini; more real mags available than the Mini. I could go on and on.

I suspect that the reason you don't hear of more problems with the Minis is that people who shoot Minis get discouraged, after they've shot them a few times, ergo, the Minis just aren't shot as much as are AR's.

Speaking of Mini's I was watching a documentary about the indian uprising in Mexico. I noticed quite a few of the masked rebels were carring folding stock mini's I assume they would be full auto. It would be interesting to know what Ruger has exported and where.

That would mean they were AC-556s if they were full auto. Like the A-Team Guns "Turk"? My only problem with the mini is I doubt it can hold up to very much sustained firing, without damaging the gun. To me there is little difference between the AK and the Mini 14. I'd prefer a stock like the FAL or AR though. The Mini 14 deservse the title POOR MAN'S ASSAULT RIFLE. Along with the AK and SKS rifles.

A follow up........

My local club is having a "high power match" that I could shoot in sept. I just want to get my name on the roster so that I can use that to get an ODCMP M1 Garand. What gun would I use? The Mini-14 or my M1 carbine. I would like some help if you would please! Thanks gang!:) ---DAROGUE1 PS. Ruger DID make the mini-14 with a folding stock in the 80's this was the gun used on the A-team Not the ACC 5.56. They were semi not full outo a flash suppressor was also added to the A-team guns. I love my mini!
