Evidently this is a fairly new model:

It seems no different from Pietta's standard 8" barrel 1861 Navy, except that it is antiqued. And yet the price is MUCH higher. Every dealer I've checked lists them for over $400. Midway sells the standard Pietta 1861 for only $257.99:

I like the Josie but the price is too high. Anybody know if there's more to it?
 
Traditions has it on their web site for $451, product code number FR186126. It's currently out of stock. It's pictured just under an 'antiqued finish' 1860 Army, also out of stock, listed for $411. The only apparent difference between them is the rebated cylinder on the 1860 Army.

On the Traditions site the frame and barrel are described as 'antique', not case colored, although the frame is clearly case colored and the barrel is not in the picture they provide.

Your Able Ammo link describes the frame and barrel as both being case colored, but they show the same picture as Traditions in which the barrel is not case colored.
 
I handled one today at Buffalo Gun Center. It looks and feels exactly like the Pietta 1861 Navy, except it is antiqued. I guess the higher price includes a premium for the antiquing, which is less severe than Uberti's, but very costly. It would be less expensive to buy the 1861 and antique it myself, though the gun looked good.
 
Waaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyy overpriced IMHO. Buy a blue/CCH model & remove the finish yourself if you've a mind to have one look old. I prefer mine to look as if they had been bought within the last 10 years and used some.

Get yourself a regular Pietta or Uberti at whatever sale price you can find, and I'll antique it for you for $20.

Heck, just coat it with Naval Jelly and it'll take the bluing off and leave the metal with a gray lackluster look that's fairly rust resistant. Or you could spray it down with vinegar and salt water which will remove the bluing and leave a thick rusty scale that smoothes up with steel wool to give that really old look like I did with this one.

You sure, Hawg? The pics I posted show a gun with no ejector rod and a non-rebated cylinder (the frame under the cylinder appears to be cut straight, with no cutout) . It doesn't seem to match any of the guns in the link you posted.
 
That's the one from the ruins. Hard to tell, could be a 61 Navy but I don't think it actually shows it being used in the movie, just found. Actually in the second link you posted the cylinder does look rebated.
 
Yeah, it's hard to tell from the pictures. I enlarged them and still couldn't tell for sure. The cylinder has a color shift at the spot where a rebated cylinder is stepped up, but the frame window is cut straight at the bottom. In any case, even if it is a '61 conversion, I don't believe it was used later in the film, as you stated.

So, I guess Pietta has created a fantasy "Josey Wales" gun -- an overpriced, lightly antiqued '61 Navy with an eight-inch (???) barrel.

Gotta love Italians! (I am half Italian.)
