traditions frontier vent threads?

hello everybody, does anyone here know what diameter the vent on a Tradition's frontier rifle is? I'm thinking of doing a little modification to mine, i want to buy a drum, nipple, and percussion hammer and modify mine so it's a percussion gun. I'm wondering if i can do that in a way that i can convert it back to a flintlock if i want to. I want to have a percussion rifle because I'm kinda partial to percussion, but if i run out of caps i still want to shoot it as a flintlock without buying another gun.

Your best bet would be to buy a whole new lock and drop it in. I did the same thing a few years back with a factory percussion rifle, bought a flinlock lock, dropped it in then went back to percussion when I wanted too. It only works with factory type rifles, not custom guns.

The above converson cost about 10.00 for a frizzen and 3.00 for a nipple.
Just take your new frizzen and cut off the striker plate "frizzen" and in the
top plate that covers the pan, drill and tap a 1/4 X 28 thread to take the
nipple. Drill this hole at a angle so as when the hammer is in the down position
the flat part of the fake steel flint that you will have to make, will hit the
nipple square. Drill out the hole that goes thru the nipple 1/16 or larger so as
to get more fire from the cap into the pan. If you have misfires, just add a
little powder to the pan. It might help to use magnum caps also. The piece of
steel that acts like the hammer has a hole drilled thru it that the screw in the
flint hammer goes thru. Mine has the striker plate welded back onto to the
front of the frizzen pan cover, but you don't have to do this. This system is
cheap and works. To switch back and forth from Flint to Percussion , just
change the fake steel flint for a real one, and change the frizzen. Thats all.
I've had mine for quite a number of years, works perfect.

i just did that. this is the coolest thing ever. it took me two cents of scrap metal, an hour of my time, and a spare NAA companion nipple. the results are perfect. i capped the nipple, pointed the barrel at a piece of grass, and pulled the trigger. the cap fired and the blade of grass moved. it works perfectly! i just had to make a piece of metal that goes where the frizzen goes and fits just right. i just cleaned it and blued it. that is absolutely perfect :)
