Trading P97 for G30

Hi guy's. In order to become familiar with what I will be shooting when I become an LEO I will be trading my Ruger P97 for the Glock 30. They will actually issue me a G21 but I want something for off duty concealed carry. I hate to do this because I love my Ruger but I can't keep both right now. My Ruger has 3 factory eight round clips, one 10 round clip, PT night sights, and a hogue grip.
The Glock has a different grip angle and action so I need to adjust now. When I go LEO I want to be a (good) shot, not average.

Do those of you with experience think this is a good move?
What should I pay for a G30 in south Georgia?

I think it's a good move. Always good to get familiar with a gun befor you have to use it to save your life. You will probably wonder why you didn't buy the G30 before.

I don't know the prices down there but a stock G30 here in Colorado runs about $540-$590.00 and the night sights will set you back anywhere from about $60 to $90 more depending on who made them etc.

I hope you can find a 30, they are pretty hard to come by here, but I'll bet having the Glock Inc. down there will help out some.

Here in SC (your neighbor to the east) used G30's will run off at $4 - 500. New are an other $200. You do not see many that are for sale either. (I've had my eyes open for one for a year)

Not sure how we would do it, but there is a used G21 for sale here (Columbia) for less than $500 if your interested. Drop me an email if you'd like..

I would be against it, IF they will issue you a Glock. If you must spring for your own, oh well. You will not need intensive familiarity with this pistol. If you put in your time with your Ruger, it will all translate over to the Glock easily.
