i have a stoeger cougar 40 cal gun and 600rds of ammo, i have a chance to trade to a blue ruger sercurity six in near new condition and draw $150 to boot. the ruger has less than a box of ammo through it and has the wood grips that are like new as well. it has a 4 inch barrel with adjustable sights. is this a good trade? thanks

Grab it while you can. The Security Six is a fine weapon. I'm not even sure what a "stoeger" is?....... but....... you won't either once you get that Six in your hand. The Security Sixes are the "cat's pajamas":D:cool: I've got 4 of them and they are my favorite.

Stoeger is an arms importer and publisher (Shooters Bible). Like other importers, they often have a manufacturer put their name on guns instead of the maker's name. The Stoeger Cougar is the Beretta Cougar 8040, a compact DA/SA auto pistol. It is a pretty good gun and IMHO a .40 Cougar and 600 rounds of .40 ammo is worth more than the other side of this trade.

I would not make that trade unless I just didn't want the Cougar at all or really wanted the Ruger.

Stoeger is owned by Beretta. With everything being equal I would still chooze the Ruger. I passed on a new one many years ago (when I was young and stupid) and have regretted ever since. I would love to add a Security Six to my collection.

I'd keep the Cougar.

Thanks for the Stoeger definition guys (and pic). I honestly don't know one auto from the next. I've never cared much for losing my brass so I've always avoided them. Been shooting revolvers since the 80's.

I love Ruger as much if not more than the next guy and have many in my stable of firearms, but I think I'd keep the Cougar. More power and higher round count makes for a might impressive self defense package. JMHO

You can buy the Cougar for $399 right now at Academy, that's NIB. You can't run out and buy the Security Six. The way I look at it is, your Cougar is worth less than $400...add $200 for the .40 cal ammo(prob. more these days) and you have $600 on your side.

He is offering the Security Six and $150 which sounds like a pretty fair trade for both of you. That SS is worth $450-500 these days, add the $150 cash and you have a value of $600-650.

I would go with the Ruger, you can always buy another Cougar.

The Cougar is a fine gun from what I've heard, but I'd trade one for a Security Six in a blink. I'm assuming the SS is a .357 Magnum caliber?

You might get a totally opposite answer if you asked the semi-auto forum.

I'd do that trade all day, every day, with hardly any manner of a regret.

Considering you paid $375 for your Cougar (based on your old posts), I think you came out ahead. The Security Six is a great revolver, and yours is in excellent condition.
