Trade values

I've got a guy wanting to trade me his Gen4 Glock 27 for my 1894s Marlin in .44 magnum. We were trying to decide which way to trade ? My Marlin and cash to him or vice versa ? Or an even trade ? Any info is appreciated !

I'd keep the rifle but if you MUST trade him you should get his pistol and cash to boot.

In excellent condition (both guns) your rifle is worth double what his pistol is worth.

Again I'd keep the rifle but if for some reason I HAD to make the trade (like I'd gotten high on hallucinogenics and thought the Glock 27 was a quality S&W revolver) I'd ask for the pistol and at least $200 cash (you could really get upwards of $300 plus the pistol).

DO NOT MAKE AN EVEN UP TRADE!!!!

A quick check of Gunbroker shows brand new 1894 Marlins in 44 listed for well under $600.
A new Glock 27 is about $500.
Go from there.

cash value aside, what is the utility of both the carbine and the pistol to you. Do you need, or can you use a handgun in the caliber offered? The carbine is a deer gun (within its limitations) does the GLock have the same capability?

Is that important to you? Do you have other guns, so the loss of the Marlin won't put a hole in your abuility that the GLock cannot fill?

Lots of things to think about. Would it make a difference to you if it was a different handgun? Is the Marlin excess to your needs, and wants?

What a gun sells for on the market is a useful thing to know, if you are planning to sell the gun. Otherwise, its all about what the value is to you, in real world utility. If it was my only deer gun, I wouldn't trade it for any handgun of the same approximate market value. If I needed a handgun more than another deer gun, I would. Its all about what its worth, to YOU.

44 AMP hit it right on the head.

What is the gun worth to you? Will you shoot more often if you have the Glock?

I used to catch flak from people over some of the trades I made, but in the end, I was happy because I had what I wanted.
