Trade Values at LGS vs. Pawn Shop

Hi all. All things being equal what if any is the difference. I understand they need to make money.

If gun retails for $500 what is its trade value roughly? Thanks.

they give you a quarter of its new value so they can sell it for close to its new value and still have negation room to sell it for twice what they gave you for it.

We always gave about 70% of the Blue Book value, then tried to get book value, or at least break even

If "pawning" a gun, you're lucky to get half the value, because they want you to come back and get it

Anything of yours brought to the pawn shop is near worthless. Anything the pawnshop is selling to you is gold. Don't sell to the pawnshop. Lgs is a better bet (mostly) though you can get hosed there too if you're not careful. Selling to an individual is best if it can be done safely.

Pawnshops are in the business of making high interest, short term loans.
They aren't going to pay actual value for anything, and it's foolish to think they will.

A ""gun shop" also really isn't there to buy your guns unless they can make a decent profit on it to cover their costs.

Private sales are how you make money selling your firearms.

If you want the convenience of selling to a retail outlet you have to pay the difference

I agree that selling to an individual is the best way, but the rest of that just isn't true. I work at a pawn shop and we're told on a regular basis thaf we pay more than most any other shop that sells guns. Guns are dead right now, so, overall nobody is giving much for them unless it's something special.

Have one local gun shop that is the only place I'll trade or sell a gun. I have complete confidence in their fair dealing and honesty based on numerous transactions.
