Trade value SR1911?

I recently posted my Ruger SR1911 for sale or trade on Armslist. Got a few hits, but one that stood out was a Sig Sauer P228. I've had a couple people tell me it's a no brainer and I should jump at the P228, just figured I'd get the input from the good people on here before pulling the trigger (pun intended).

Well a good condition used P228 is a $550 to $600 gun depending on what it comes with so it all depends on what you paid for your SR1911.

The SR1911 can be replaced easier than getting a P228.

One of the few times I have to disagree with WVSig. The worth of your gun has no relationship to the price you paid. There are a couple of used ones sitting on Gunbroker starting at $570 and no bids. I didn't see any used Sig 228s.

I don't sell or trade guns I like. That said, I think the trade is a pretty good one for the OP.

I think is it a fair deal if my post indicated differently I apologize. I am a huge fan of the P228. It is the first handgun that I shot extensively. I currently own 2 of them, well really 1 since my wife took my first one as hers.

This is the last one I bought to replace the one I lost.... ;) It was a German LEO trade in that was brought in by PW Arms a few years ago. Still one of my favorite guns.

They are certainly harder to come by then SR1911s which are available everywhere NIB and are starting to show up in the used market as well.

The Sig P228 is a bit harder to find but they are out there. Did not bid on this one which finished at $555 + $30 + transfer so right around $600 OTD.

WVSig - That's a great looking P228 - I'm going to go out on a limb and speculate that you have had it refinished. I would like to ask you who did the work if you don't mind ... Thanks

Part 2 - are the frames different between the 9mm P229 and the P228? The Marine PX here just received a SIG shipment and has the (rail-version) P229 9mm's at around $735. Way out of my league price-wise but interesting to note ...

I would say it depends on the condition of the 2 guns and if you want it . Like others have said you don't see 228's everywhere like SR1911's . I have purchased 2 used SR1911's in LN condition in the last 4 months . I like them better than a Sig , I guess that's why I never have owned one .

Thanks that is the factory finish. IIRC it is Ifalon which was the Sig finish before Nitron. It can only be applied in Germany. It has a darker black appearance then Nitron or blue.

P229 frames are slightly larger in the grip circumference because they were designed around the 40 S&W round. They are also a little less/differently balance because of the heavier stainless steel slide.

If you want a non-railed P229 you have to go to the used market. The $735 price is pretty good on a new Sig.

Around here, you can get a her SR1911 for $550+7.75% at the LGS. If the Sig is in good condition, it seems to me it would be a good trade.

they do have about the same retail value, used, I wouldn't know, I haven't seen too many people actually getting rid of their SR1911s. I'm not much of a 1911 guy but I've been lusting over an SR1911 since ruger first announced them in 2011 and I've liked sigs since I shot the Navy P226, so it would be tough in my opinion but if you like sigs I would say it's a decent trade.
