Trade P228 for Glock 23? Glocksters & SIGaholics, convince me.

I've gone a long and costly route from Glock 19 to CZ75 Compact to Glock 19 to SIG Sauer P228. I thought I had reached the end of the road. Now I've got the vapors for a Glock 23.

I'm most accurate with the P228, it fits my hands and balances very well for me. Glocks fit fine, and I'm accurate up to 25 yards.

Why would you keep the P228?

Why would you trade it for a Glock 23?

Normally I would say keep the Sig, as thats what your accustomed to.
But since you have indicated that you got the hots for the G23 - then your not going to be satisfied until thats what you HAVE.

If you avoid going for the Glock at this time you will end up pulling a George Castanza over it... Obsessing... Going over to Glock talk and asking questions... searching old gun rags for articles about it... putting a G23 jpg as your wallpaper...
So - go aheag and save yourself the trouble and keep your wife from getting annoyed - and just get that Glock.

George,

LOL-yours is one of the best posts I've read in a LONG time. You described nearly the exact steps I go through. Are you with ECHELON? How did you knoe about the Glock 23 background? ;)

Thing is I've got two extra postban factory mags and an Alessi Talon for the P228. What am I to do with these if I make the switch?

Tecolote, I doubt I would part with either of these pistols for a Glock 23. I own a Glock Models, 19, 23, 27, and 30 plus a Sig P228. I love the Sig P228 and Glock 19 in 9mm. I adore the Glock 27 but can't say I would lose any sleep if I didn't have my Model 23. I think there are better full sized 40 S&Ws out there than the Model 23. I am positive the Browning HP MKIII is a better weapon. Regards, Richard.

You haven't mentioned why you want to trade. You said, "I'm most accurate with the P228, it fits my hands and balances very well for me. Glocks fit fine, and I'm accurate up to 25 yards.". That sounds good to me.

If you really want the Glock 23 and can get an even trade, then go for it like George says. If you have to add some dough along with the P228 to trade for the Glock 33, I wouldn't do it. I'd save until you had enough dough for the 23. You can always sell the holster and mags.

The only reason I want the Glock 23 is because some nicks on the P228's frame from slide wear. I'm afraid that if I plough thousands of rounds through it eventually it might fall apart. And because I've got the vapors for the Glock. ;(

Just find someone who has the "reverse hots" (is that kinda like sex?) and has a G23 but wants a 228. Problem solved!

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!

Keep the P228, even if you buy a G23. I wish I would have kept mine.

Allen,

Glad to see you post. Hope everything is going well.

It seems we find ourselves in similar binds. I've got to fight off the vapors. I'm clearing the garage looking for anything of value that I can sell. I found a NIB Glock 22, old syle frame, all acessories for $400 shipped to my FFL. I might be able to afford it is I can scrape together enough soda cans to recycle. ;)

I'm not here to totally flame, but DUDE, what the hell are you smoking? Are you pulling a denfoote?

If the Glock 19 didn't work for you, why would the 23 be any different? You're talking the same size, same grip angle, just a more non-pleasant round to shoot. For the last good part of a year, you've been defending the Sig 228 as being YOUR better choice against the Glock. Clearly you've defended the Sig's durability (if you did your part). Why the change of heart? Because of a little friction wear?

Hey, if it floats your boat, go for it. But you've already demonstrated that you shoot better with the Sig. You'll regret it if you trade. Buying it straight up to add to the collection would be totally understandable, though.

Yo! I know what you are going through, I do it all the time. I would not get rid of the P-228. I'm a Glock fan, but I really regret getting rid of my P-228. If it fit your hand well and you are a goo9d shjot with it, that is all you really want in a firearm anyway. I had a g-23, it's gone now, because I had another craving. Save up and get the G-23, don't sell the SIG. I have never heard of them falling apart, and you can always get it refinished.

Good luck, I know all the opinions in the world will not change your mind if your mind is set!

There are two very simple, fundamental rules to gun buying and ownership that you should never, never break:

1. Never get rid of a gun you KNOW you like to get something else. You will always, always regret it.

2. Never keep a gun that you know you don't like. Always get rid of it as fast as you can.

I have owned both, and would say that while both the 23 and 228 I've had are fantastic guns, I wouldn't give up either one to get the other. If you shoot the Sig 228 better then definitely, definitely keep it or you will be kicking yourself in the butt later.

I'll trade ya, I have a Glock 23 2nd generation w/ night-sights in box with cleaning rod....no mags cause of the high caps...I'm in Orange County, CA. I also have a 228 and extra mags so the mags are not a problem. The only thing is I like to keep it local, so if you are in CA, we can work something out... Personally, I'd keep the 228 and just buy a G23, but then again I don't know your financial situation..

Why would you jump for 9mm's to a 40SW? Get the Glock 19 and yes its a good swap.

I had a P226 and a P220. Great guns but with that exposed hammer, they don't carry concealed as well as a Glock. Traded my P226 for a Glock 19 with two factory hi-cap mags. I later traded my P220 for a Glock 30.

Under stress, I prefer a SA or GSA trigger system to a DA/SA gun. I at least know that I'm going to hit my target on the first shot.

I think that you will be more staisfied with the Glock because its tough to beat up, wears well, can be easily repaired by you, and there is a reason why people love them.

I love Sigs but love Glocks better. And the federal law enforcement agencies agree. They've dropped Sig and gone Glock for cost and reliability purposes.

Sorry I didn't see you already tried a Glock 19. Maybe the G23 will work for you but rent one first!
