trade or private sale

My eyes are not what they use to be. I was thinking of trading my .357 sp101 for something with better sights. My question is,will there be much of a difference between trading or selling. This gun is hammerless with a 2.25" barrel. It is also in excellent condition.
what do you think i could get in trade or resale. Thankyou for any input

With regards to trades, if you can trade privately for something you want go for it or do a private sale. To trade at a dealer you'll get somewhere around 50% of new purchase price and maybe a little less than that. If the pocket can handle it why not keep it and buy what you want. Maybe you can trade for a GP100 and a couple of bucks and get better sites

Resale maybe 75-80% of new

Perhaps, if you really like the sp101, it may be worthwhile to check on the cost of getting a rear sight added and a higher front sight installed. The cost may be less than the loss you would realize in a trade or sale.

Welcome bink. I second the new sights. Don't know your problem but I have long suffered with sight issues. Much better now that I had cataract surgery 5 years ago. Most of my handguns have a dab of bright orange Tequila Sunrise fingernail polish on the front sights to help with quicker pick up.

If you really like your SP101 the Smith and Wesson model 60 is almost identical to it in size and weight and the 3" model has adjustable sites, is a few ounces lighter, a half inch shorter, and has a better trigger out of the box than the SP101. I originally owned an SP101 and traded it in and got this model 60 for $400

you all have made good points. I will look into replacing the sights first and yes, i will consider laser sights before i trade or sell.
thanks for all the help

Since your SP 101 is not a target pistol and I really can't imagine

anyone going to the range and putting a couple hundred rounds through it and 'enjoying' the experience... I think it is purely a close up self defense hangun. On the chance that a bad thing is happening and you need to use it, I don't think you will be using the sights on the pistol anyway. I'd learn to shoot it with out using the sights.
