Trade my S&W 642 for a Ruger Security six?

I got an offer earlier today to trade my 642 in excellent condition for a 4 in. Ruger Security Six with hogue+original grips. The Ruger is about 90%. I have been considering picking a larger .357 for a while and was considering a gp100, but the ruger six series has had a pretty solid history. Just wanted to get a few opinions from more experienced revolver collectors before I do this even trade. Thanks.

Absolutely do it, you can always pick up another 642 for dirt cheap, not so much for the Security 6.

The 642 is a fine revolver, and they are readily available at good prices.

The Security Six is a fantastic revolver and the prices on them keep inching up. I doubt you would be disappointed in the trade.

Good for you!

Excellent decision! The triggers can be rough, but that can be smoothed out. I'd kill some snap caps first. A lot. If that doesn't do it, Wolff might have some spring kits left.

I have a Speed Six in the 2 3/4 bull barrel flavor, and the wife has a Security in the same. I'm amazed at the accuracy of these snubs. And the workmanship is way better than what they produce today. I traded something for a newer SP101 not long ago. The size difference was minimal. One extra round for slight size difference. And the edges on the new SP 101s are very sharp. Not smoothed out like the old Sixes. I sold that SP and don't feel bad about it at all. A bucket list gun for me is a Police Service Six with a four inch barrel. Be a good woods gun.

Sorry for not mentioning the finish! It's a blued version, not a stainless steel one. I prefer the classic revolvers blued anyways, especially with a set of nice wood grips. I'm sure once I use it and abuse it, I'll get it reblued if needed in the future.

I shot my security six today. This is the first time since 2011 and I was pleasantly surprised by the performance. Sometimes you just have to go back to an old friend to remember why I have held on to this thing for so long.

The bluing is a little worn mostly by the butt, but no rust or pitting. The lock up is tight and the forcing cone is good to go. May need a new front sight blade eventually. Pretty darn happy with it. The mrs. is getting a little annoyed with me handling it so much, lol.

If she's unhappy now be sure you're not eying her while fondling the Ruger. She may get the wrong impression. :D

That's a fine looking specimen now go out and get it dirty.
