Thinking of trading in my Springfield XD 4 Inch Compact Dark Earth. Anyone have any idea of what I can expect to get for it? Its in 100-95% condition. With all the stuff it came with when new.:)

Value is about $200 - $250 in my area as a trade in ....since they're selling new for $ 475 - $ 525 new ....

A general note. Most of the values given on sites like this are RETAIL values, as are the values given in the gun price guides. In other words, those are the approximate prices on a private sale or what one would expect to see on a dealer's price tag.

Most dealers will try to buy as low as possible (surprise!) and certainly will not pay more for a used gun than they can pay for a new one wholesale.

As for trade-in price, that depends on what the customer is buying. A dealer will not give much in trade for a $500 gun on another $500 gun, but if you trade a $500 gun on a $5000 gun, the trade-in value might well be $500, essentially a wash for the dealer, but he makes his money on the $5000 item.

A trade in...The owner of a gun store will give you about 1/4 to 1/3 the resale value of your gun either in cash or towards the purchase of a new gun. He will then put your gun up for sale as a used gun for between 100-150 dollars more than what he paid you for it. This will usually be 150-100 below the cost of a new gun (provided the gun is in good condition.) The dealer needs to make money off the resale of your gun. It usually isn't worth the trouble of the paper work unless he makes at least $100. off the transaction.

You will have more money on hand for the purchase of a new gun if you sell the gun outright. You can also arrange a trade for it with another individual.

If you cant sell it in a private sale you would be better off keeping it.
very few times have I done well on a trade and never when I bought the gun new.

A local gun shop uses the foumula: Condition X 75% of present retail value, to give you your trade in price.

Say your weapon is 90%, . . . book value of your weapon is $300, . . . you want to trade up for a $500 gun.

First, your weapon gets priced at 75% of its value of $300, which turns out to be $225. Figure 90% of that figure, . . . and your total trade is worth $199.80.

May God bless,
Dwight

Wholesale from RSR Group is $422. We would offer 2/3 in trade for a very clean example which would be $280. Any more than that and we'd just rather order a new one.
