Trade GP100 for Security Six

Hi all. I have a blued 4 inch Gp100 with the wood insert grips. Mint condition except for the cylinder ring.

Trade is a stainless 4 inch Security Six that is in excellent similar condition, but no rings. I like the feel of it better.

I may have to eat a little on the GP. I know they are roughly equivalent value. What say you?

The security six is a great revolver. I don't know if it's equal to the gp100, just because we've taking about a newer generation to an older generation. I think if you like the six, you made a decent deal.

Have you shot the SS?
SS's don't have as nice of a DA trigger stroke. Everyone I've shot all has a 'hump' in the middle of the DA stroke, the GP is much nicer in that regard.
I know the SS's look nicer, but I would never give up a GP for one.

Security six is a quality gun

Better than the GP? Maybe. Maybe not.
The Six series is becoming collectable. Might be a long time before the GP is.

I'd say make the trade.

I like his idea ^ the best, but if the owner of the Security Six won't sell outright, I would go ahead and do the trade.

I'm not sure it's an "EVEN" trade, and we could argue for hours about that. But even if it's not "EVEN", it's not wildly lopsided. And at the end of the day, they are still making the GP-100 and there's a zillion of them out there to replace the one you're giving up.

Yeah, they made a lot of Security Sixes also, but THAT pool is absolutely not getting any larger, while the GP is in current production.

I would rubber stamp this trade -YES- if I get to vote.

That's a tough decision to make. It seems like the values make it a wash, but I'm seeing 4 inch in stainless for around $550, give or take, so I recommend the notion of buying it outright. While they are both Rugers, they are not the same, and even a current production GP100 used is commanding a bit more than a Security Six. If you intend to carry it and there's a choice of one only, I'd get the Security Six as the GP100 is fairly stout for that role.

The Gp100 has a lot going for it and I really like them. But the SS series, as mentioned, are no longer being made and haven't been for a while now. If you want one, I would say make the trade so you don't have regrets later down the road. You can always replace the GP100 later .If you prefer the GP100 and are not really into the SS and are only considering because you read they are good guns, then don't make the trade.

Personally? That's a toss up... If the GP100 was stainless, I would not make the trade. But seeing how I really like Ruger's stainless revolvers, I might make the trade for the Security Six (if it was in good condition).

Trade GP100 for Security Six

If the Security Six is tight, no end shake, crane shake, cylinder shake.

Locks on all chambers and shoots where the sights look (and the sights are not jacked over to one side.)

I say grab it.

I have a few of 'em myself.

I couldn't work out a trade that was good for me so I bought it outright. I have seen them go for more than I paid. I had a guy offer to buy my GP on the spot and I hesitated. Going to have to ponder that for a bit.....

I am actually going to sell the GP tomorrow I have decided. Gun is too bulky for me and I would rather pay off the credit card than have it. Nonetheless, fantastic weapon.

Congrats.
It's always nice to get the one that's juuust right.
My buddy has the Security Six that he really loves and I have the GP that I do shoot well. We have a pretty good competition going. So far the old man with the GP-100 is winning. ;)

Go for the Security Six. You will have an extremely robust revolver in a package that is just a fraction larger than a Smith and Wesson K frame.

I'd take a well made older gun over a new one any day. If you're only going to keep one, you made the right choice to me
