My gunsmith gave me a lead on a Colt New Frontier in .45 Colt and I've been trying to pin down a price on the gun. It is on consignment at a local sporting goods store. It's a .45 similar to my .44 Special:

I have tendered an offer of $1000 OTD,C.O.B. but can't get an answer oout of the owner. The store owner told me the gun owner thinks its worth a lot more. I sure don't aim to pay more as a brand new New Frontier goes for $1300 ~ $1400, and comes with the Eliason rear sight.

P.S. Did I ever mention liking the .45 Colt? If not, here are a my Single Actions in that chambering:

Yep, next to the .44, its my favorite caliber.

That's awesome. I hope it works out for you.

If I didn't have more that a few irons in the fire, I'd be after a few single actions my self. I've got a flat top 44 mag, but I need a something like a .357 a Vaquero. I wish I could afford a Colt,...

Wait him out, Bob. The gun wouldn't be on consignment if he didn't want to sell it. Your offer is a fair one, and there aren't hundreds of people looking to buy SAAs locally.

Good point Bill. I might go back in 2 weeks so he knows that offer is current still.

In my neck of the woods, I would expect that gun to sit for months if trying to sell for $1000, even. Not too many people get the value of a good SA revolver.

I agree with Nathan Bill . . . give him a few days . . . it's a gamble he might sell it but I have a feeling he'll still have it. I'd take 10 $100 bills along and show him what a pretty "fan" they make all spread out in your hand. Sometimes the sight of the cash rather than the offer is more tempting. "Cash on the barrel head" as they say. He might think twice about watching the actual money walking out the door if he hesitates. Good luck and let us know how it works out. I'm sure those "kids" of yours would love a new "sibling". :)

Well, the man that I see face to face is the store owner, not the owner of the gun, so waving the cash doesn't sway him that much. But then again.............

Won't hurt to try.

I love the round too. While I don't reload yet, the .45 Colt will be the reason I start. Besides being an extremely versatile round, my love for it comes from growing up watching old westerns.

I agree with the others, your offer is fair. Some people seem to think their guns are worth more than they are and cant accept the concept of taking a loss when buying a new gun and selling it used.

Thanks

Love how you wheel gun guys just call it 45 colt, the other 45 is ACP, or a record that spins faster than 33 rpm. I should own 1, but the 44 mag is all I got for now. Good luck on the gun, if I were the seller I could reconcile myself knowing it would be fed and cared for

Bob, you have a nice collection of Revolvers and the Colt you have pictured is very nice.

What price does the seller have on the Colt?

MSRP on a new Colt model P1850 (fixed sight model) is $1416.00, I know people don't pay MSRP on guns, but Colt SAA revolvers around here seem to bring MSRP or more.

One of the reasons for that is trying to find a distributor that has any at the present time or gun shops that have any to sell, the seller may be aware of this and it don't eat anything just laying there.;)

If you do score the Colt it will make a fine addition to your collection, good luck.

There has been no price set by the owner/seller as yet.

The last New Frontier I bought was $990 for a 7 1/2" .44 Special, used/previously owned, and $1300 for a brand new 5 1/2" .44 Special. I do like the Eliason sights used on the current production, but not too anxious to have it on a 5 1/2" barreled gun.

The Eliason sight is far superior to the Colt Accro, but it does over hang the hammer sppur slightly more.

As a matter of interest, the New Frontier seems to brign a slightly lower price than the Single Action Army, which is fine with me!
