Bought a new mod. 22 today for what I think was a pretty good price. Anyone know what retail is supposed to be?

There is no MSRP. Price is set by the dealer. I was told dealer cost is around $615, which of course varys based on distributor used, dealer volume, etc...

So... how does it shoot?

According to Davidson's web site, MSRP is $855. I would suspect dealer cost is about $575. I just bought one for $625 plus the sales tax.

I have heard (so who knows for sure) that S&W has run off 300 of these with plans for another 200 if they sell. Apparently they are selling well. This same source (big grain of salt, here) says that S&W might build an additional 200 if demand is there. That would be either 500 or 700 total. S&W says this is a "limited edition" but I don't see them specifying how limited.

This model seems very popular with those who like traditional revolvers. I have seen asking prices from $595 to $750. I just got one for $630 + $10 shipping. It's number 255 so the initial 300 must be just about used up.

Maybe S&W will make some more traditional-looking guns as a result of this one's success. Anyone up for a new Heavy Duty?

Mine was 670 out the door. It shoots well and I believe I like it better than the mod. 21.
They used to make a 41 mag that was similar looking to the 22. Don't know what the model was. Wish they would do that again.
