All,
So have been looking at a couple of guns that caught my eye. One of them is the Magnum Research MR9 Eagle. The other is a Canik55 TP9SA/V2. The MR9 lists at $549 at Cabela's while the list on the TP9 is $399. I am leaning toward the MR9 because it is on sale for $399. Just looking for thoughts to help me make up my mind. No real purpose other then looking to add to the "collection". Thanks!!

I probably wouldn't go with either of them. If you REALLY want to, I'd go with the MR9, but only because the mags work in the Walther PPQ M1... that would be useful for me.

If you want a Canik, i'd go with the TP9SF, not the SA.

For the same price, I would buy the original rather than a 'sorta-clone.

The MR9 is a Magnum Research barrel and slide on a Walther P99AS frame and parts; the frame is even marked "Walther" under the backstrap. Of course, some people don't like Walther's unique DA/SA trigger system on a striker-fired gun.

Keep in mind the MR9 is $399 right now. The P99 through Cabela's is $599 and 7-8 weeks out on shipping. YIKES!!

Why not just go with the real deal and get a Walther P99? Those are city clones of it. They are both still very good though. I'd go with the Mr9 since it's on sale though. But a real Walther is only around $100-120 more. Cabelas prices are always very high.

The other advantages of the Mr9 is the half inch longer barrel and mag compatibility with PPQ M1, P99, and SW99 so you can really price shop for them. There are even 16rd and 20rd oem P99 mags.

Sorry, I meant buy the MR9 rather than the TP9SA. The P99AS, whether labeled a Magnum Research or Walther, is by far the better gun.

As to Walther vs. MRI, do you prefer a black or stainless slide, a 4" or 4.5" barrel, or short or long mag release levers? Having owned a P99AS and MR9, and my son owning an SW99, I can attest that there is no quality difference between those variants.

The Canik TP9 SA, V2, and SF are all pretty sweet. As Accurate as you are, nice trigger, great price, reliable, and comes in cool colors. Sounds like a win to me!

SA is awesome
V2 if you want second strike but not as great trigger
SF if you are paranoid about the decocker that isn't an issue anyway...

Snyperx, if you're wondering what he/she is talking about, the SA has a decocker button like the MR9/P99, but since the trigger lacks a DA function, the button essentially turns the gun into a paperweight. Unsurprisingly, many folks find this less than reassuring. ;)

On a related note, I find the TP9SA trigger to be too light for a defensive firearm that lacks a manual safety, but this is a matter of personal opinion.

On another note, I personally would not buy a Turkish-made firearm right now because of the ongoing fallout from last summer's failed coup there. I believe there is a very real danger that relations between the United States and Turkey will deteriorate to the point that these guns will no longer be imported and factory service will lapse. OTOH if you're not worried and/or you're in Canada (do they have Cabela's there?), you may choose to disregard this warning. :)
