Toys"R"Us boycotting NRA, Part II

Want to share a good experience today ... it was a lesson to me.

Based upon some of the fine letters to this company, written by TFL members, I stopped in today to see what they do sell. It was crystal clear they carried lots of violent video games, nerf guns, 'ray' guns, and military combat action figures. Easy case for hypocrisy vis-a-vis the NRA theme restaurant.

So, I asked for the manager. He was a very friendly, decent fellow, and I was impressed by our conversation. He thanked me for bringing this to his attention, agreed it was silly for their corporate offices to get involved in this affair, and said he would follow up on these reports. And, I think I was able to help straighten him out on some misunderstandings he had re: firearms and the RKBA. He also told me I was't the first fellow to bring this up ... sounds like other RKBA supporters are speaking up.

Any more word from the corporate-types yet?

I caught onto this thread late. Toys R' Us just got an email from me too. Mine basically stated about all the violent Playstation, Sega, etc games they carry. All the fake guns, etc and how they just lost all my business blah blah blah.

I just sent them this:

Dear Toys R (no longer) Us:

Hell, as the saying goes, may have no fury like a woman scorned, but here in the USA it's the gun owners you really don't want to tick off. Eighty million strong, we are a force (a.k.a., market share) not to be taken lightly. So the TRU belligerence towards the NRA is not only hypocritical and senseless; it's a poor business decision. As Exhibits A and B, I call your attention to K-Mart and Smith & Wesson, two fairly substantial corporate entities whose bottom lines have suffered as a result of capricious policies toward lawful gun owners. I regret (well, not really) to inform you that TRU is about to become Exhibit C. The hypocrisy of TRU marketing its virtual mayhem, and then condemning the NRA for opening a family restaurant, is truly breathtaking.

At the risk of repeating promises you have no doubt heard often in the last few days, I will not spend another cent in your stores until your opposition to the NRA is publicly withdrawn; I will urge my friends and family to do likewise; and I will make it a point to hightlight the hypocrisy of TRU's corporate policy to whomever will listen.

All is not lost, however. Rosie O'Donnell will probably bring her three children shopping with her. Maybe her armed bodyguard, as well.

I got 2 "canned" form letter responses to my email to Toys.

I also pointed out there is a laser tag video arcade already in Times Sq. To be consistant they should demand that exsisting business should be forced out.

What would happen if a lot of pro-gun people when to toyRus and bought one day and then the next returned the merchandise for a refund and kept it up for several days?

For those that missed it, here is what all of the talk is about...

POLITICIANS JOIN NRA SHOWDOWN

By PAUL THARP

Politicians are rallying around Toys "R" Us and luxury purveyor LVMH for taking a stand against the National Rifle Association in a Times Square showdown over a shooting gallery there.

The two companies are refusing to sign leases in the glitzy new "Bow Tie" building if the NRA also moves in with its gun-themed showcase.

After The Post broke the story of their standoff yesterday, Sen. Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) and two Congress members, Rep. Nita Lowey (D-Westchester) and Rep. Jerrold Nadler (D-Manhattan), hailed the firms' "principled stand."

"You are doing the right thing," the politicians said in a joint letter to the heads of the two giant retailers. "We believe there is no place in the new Times Square for the NRA."

Sources have told The Post that Toys "R" Us and LVMH are refusing to sign leases in 1530 Broadway unless they get assurances from the NRA and its president, actor Charlton Heston, that the NRA won't build a theme restaurant and shooting gallery there.

Toys "R" Us plans to take 45,000 square feet of space, and LVMH plans about half that amount for one of its Sephora cosmetics supermarkets. The NRA has been considering 70,000 square feet for an NRA Sports Blast eatery-entertainment center.

The politicians' letter added: "If the NRA opens in Times Square, they will be sending an unmistakably dangerous message to visitors that guns are a cause for celebration."

Let the boycott of Toys "R" Us begin! Christmas is right around the corner!!! Time to e-mail and contact Toys "R" Us and let them know they have made a very bad decision. Remember K-Mart!

Well, I just emailed Toys R Us yet another version of the same conplaint that they have been hearing all week.

I hope some liberal socialist yuppie
Toys R Us press agent gets his ass fired for
ruining Toysrus bottom line!

It will end up costing the greedy bastards
at least 10% of their bottom line to mess with the NRA and the firearms community.

Someone on TFL made a suggestion to purchase ~$500 worth of toys from TRU - then return them that same day with an explanation to the manager as to why.

THAT would make a huge statement.

Please pass this suggestion along.

Regarding the other company that is apparently refusing to sign a lease, LVMH ... they are apparently French. You know ... the country that couldn't give a rat's a** about the RKBA, because they depend on other countries to save their sorry a**es.

Here is their web site: http://www.lvmh.com/ , and here is their list of companies: http://www.lvmh.com/group/l2b0000a.htm . You'll recognize some fine cognac and champagne in there.

I'll be sending them a note as well, but considering the source, I doubt it will be successful. But, we may at least put them on notice that they have judged the culture of America incorrectly.

Or buy a couple hundred dollars worth of toys from their biggest competitor, then send a picture of the toys laid out along with the sales receipt to ToysRUs, but I like the returning idea better - it would have more immediate impact because the store manager, who's pay in contingent on sales, would get steamed and raise hell to national. "Gee, Mr. Manager, when I got home, I heard about the actions of Toys R Us, and I just cannot do business with a pro-violence, anti-safety, anti-freedom company. Sorry."

I sent two different emails to Toys R' US and never received a reply. They were professional letters stating my displeasure over their recent decisions.

Just sent my second letter, my second e-mail, and called a service representative at 1-888-TOYSWEB (then press "5").

The Service Representative was very pleasant, but just let me speak and wouldn't offer anything other than "yes sir", "have a nice day" type conversation. I asked her had she received any other calls such as mine and she indicated that "yes she had" and that she understood the subject matter well. With hundreds of calls such as mine, I can understand the "say your pitch and get off the phone" attitude, but her attitude was in a pleasant way. Guys, after a bunch of these calls, it will filter up to the management level that this was a very stupid move on their part.

I plan to write several letters for my in-laws today and they have indicated that they will boycott KRU and sign the letters.

Keep up the pressure as the only way to make them understand is by smacking them in their pocket-book. It appears that all of the calls and letters are working.....So don't stop!
