Just received this from the Libertarian Party. Another example of the insanity gripping many of our politicians.

Politician proposes toy gun buy-back
to prevent kids' "violent behavior"

WASHINGTON, DC -- A politician in Maryland wants to start a buy-back program for toy guns -- yes, toy guns -- and it's got
Libertarians baffled: They don't know whether to support the program or snicker at it.

"This is a real dilemma," said Steve Dasbach, the party's national director. "Do we praise this politician for going after toy guns instead of Constitutionally protected real uns? Or do we point out that buying back toy guns will no more keep our streets safe than
buying back non-alcoholic beer will keep Ted Kennedy sober?

"Or should we just give this politician an ward for coming up with the most entertainingly goofy idea of the year?"

This week, Annapolis alderwoman Cynthia A. Carter proposed that the city start a program to buy back water pistols, cap guns, and thier toy weapons to curb "violent behavior" among children.

The first-term Democrat argued that children "can't distinguish between a real gun or a play gun," and said she would eventually like
to make all toy guns illegal.

But until that happens, Carter said she will seek city funds or private contributions to start the toy gun buy-back program.

Libertarians have a hard time taking the proposal seriously, admitted Dasbach.

"Our first concern was whether this program would lead to the creation of a new federal agency; the BATTF -- Bureau of Alcohol,
Tobacco, & Toy Firearms. But our second oncern was -- where will this end?"

For example, if politicians decide this program is successful, will they then...

* Prevent the next Microsoft by buying back Monopoly games?

* Prevent traffic accidents by buying back Hot Wheels toy cars?

* Prevent burglaries by buying back Barbie's Dream House?

* Prevent deforestation by buying back Lincoln Logs?

* Prevent gambling by buying back Pokemon cards?

* Prevent urban sprawl by buying back Lego bricks?

* Prevent war by buying back G.I. Joes?

Yes, those suggestions are ridiculous -- but no more ridiculous than the idea that buying toy guns will prevent children from engaging
in make-believe "violence," said Dasbach.

"This month, a school in New Jersey suspended two kindergarten students after they played cops-and-robbers on the playground, pointed
their fingers at each other like guns, and shouted 'bang bang!'," he noted. "Which brave politician will be the first to propose a finger buy-back program?"

But before politicians head in that ludicrous direction -- or suggest some kind of "compromise," like a seven-day waiting period
before purchasing a toy gun, or toy gun trigger locks -- Libertarians have a better idea, said Dasbach.

"Here's a suggestion for Alderwoman Carter: Instead of buying toy guns, buy a clue," he said. "Disarming toy gun-toting tots is a
childish reaction to a serious public problem. A six-year-old with a water pistol doesn't cause crime; criminals cause crime. And the sooner politicians figure that out, the safer we will all be."

I'd love a toy gun buyback program. Me and my saw & drill will churn out hundreds of fake toy guns. I'll be rich! Yippee!

It's the GUN CULTURE these people are out to destroy. If children have NO exposure to guns (toy OR real), then by the time they have kids, the gun culture will be dead.

THIS kind of thing is what I'm talking about.

she would eventually like to make all toy guns illegal.

In Oz, a toy shop owner was arrested and jailed for having a case of plastic TOY GUNS. He was arrested on FIREARMS CHARGES. He nearly went to prison for 10 years over it. This kind of sh*t MUST be taken seriously. Yes, it's fun to laugh & snicker, but it's NO LAUGHING MATTER.

Give an inch.....

DRAW THE LINE HERE, NOW, THIS YEAR, OR WE LOSE OUR RIGHTS FOREVER.

Screw her. I decided a long time ago that my kids will have plain old home-made rubberband guns made of wood.

Dad bought an antique one this weekend and showed it to me. It's shaped a lot like a tommy gun, and there's a line of perpendicular notches all along the top of the barrel. There's also a string that runs along the top, drooping down into the notches, from the front of the barrel to a smally crank at the back.

You load the rubber bands by stretching them to each notch--maybe 20 bands in all. Then, as you turn the crank, the string tightens and pops the rubber bands off--a full-auto rubber-band gun!
(Doesn't look anything like a real gun.)

Too much. As a matter of fact, this is soooo much that I called the LP - George Getz. He confirms it. Told him about TFL, and he may visit.

'The worse it gets, the better it gets.' - Alan Korwin ( www.gunlaws.com ) Indeed. The anti's are looking more and more insane.

If we outlaw toy guns, only Santa Claus will have toy guns ... ;)

This is nothing more than a sinister plot to corner the antique toy gun market! ;)
No one is manufacturing these things any more. Ergo, there is NO NEW SUPPLY!!
This means that the existing stock is it!!!
The destruction of those toy guns actually collected will be faked. Several years from now, these items will start to show up on the Antiques Roadshow, demanding ridiculous prices.
So if ya' got em', you better hoard em'.

We had one of these a few years ago. A local pizza shop that was owned by a bunch of hard core antis, was giving out 2 slices of pizza and a soda for a toy gun. I was still in high school, but I wasn't stupid! I loaded up a bunch of pro-gun friends and we headed off to the local "MEGA-MART". We each bought a plastic squirt gun for fifty cents, and went to trade it in for $3.00 worth of pizza and soda. You should have seen the look on everyone's faces as our 4 pickups left the parking lot..... NRA stickers on the back windows, and shotguns in the gun racks. My friend said out the window.... " Thanks guys! were going huntin'!" I LOVED IT!
They didn't have much sucess, and all the local gun shops reminded sportsmen about that buy back. One had a sign out the week before deer season not to buy lunch there. All the gun shops are still here..... but the pizza shop is now a barber shop..... BYE BYE GUYS!!! WERE STILL GOING HUNTING!!!

She needs to talk to my three-year-old about that. He can definitely tell the difference. He won't touch my gun. He knows what it is and what it is capable of doing. It is much different than his toy guns.

They forget to mention- thay are going to buy them back with PLAY MONEY!
Seriously, A toy gun is a great way to teach the little ones gun safety. As a small child, I was allowed to carry a toy gun or BB gun along on the hunt with the adults but if I got caught breaking any of the safety rules- I lost the gun for the day. The rules were THE RULES. Same seriousness no matter if it was a toy gun. You can bet I learned those gun safety rules.

cjb: One of the first things that sprang to mind upon reading this (other than laughter) was to get rid of some old (and probably leaky) waterguns to add a few more pennies to my bank account in preparation for getting a handgun if this happened. And being very vocal about what I intended to do with the money afterwards :D

me thinks my loppers are going to go on a bent branch expedition

i figure i could manufacture a couple a hundred "toy" guns in an hour

if i get 2 bucks a piece in a buy back,
i can buy a real gun!
