Towns trying to ban guns

I am curious if there are any other instances of a city trying to outlaw ownership of firearms besides san francisco.

There is no city of "Stookie" in Illinois.

The city of Morton Grove, Illinois has a ban on the sale and possession of handguns. The city of Kennesaw, Georgia, in response, passed a law requiring residents to own a firearm and ammunition.

Have there been any others in either of these two catagories???

Are there any legitimate stats on crime, in these towns, since the laws were passed...?

You can't register a new pistol in Chicago. All guns must be registered and you have to have a Firearms Owner ID (FOID) card. Pistols registered before the law took effect (mid 70s, I think) are grandfathered in and cops can still have them, but other than that you are out of luck. Lots of other items are verboten up there as well ("assault rifles", some magazines, ect...).

I was able to have a shotgun when I lived there but had to store all my pistols and serious military-style weaponry out of state. It always made me uncomfortable to be holding a sporting shotgun when I heard full-auto fire crackling in the night. I guess gangs don't pay much attention to gun laws...

move to south dakota. we have a state law on the books that says the legislature CANNOT pass any gun law more stringent than any federal law. therefore no town bans, no FOID cards etc.

NYC has the option to get permits for various guns. Granted it is difficult but it does happen. The range in Manhattan advertises that it can help you through the process.
