Touch of rust

Smithy Persons:
I have just a touch of rust on the side of the bolt of my Ruger 10/22. I took preventative measures, but apparently not well enough. Anyway, how do I get rid of it?
Thanks

Couple of options:
* Since it is on a polished surface, just polish it out with 500-600 grit wet/dry paper or a flat surface.
* Put a drop of solvent oil on it and rub it with fine bronze wool.

After removing the rust with 4/0 steel wool & oil, wipe the surface really dry with a towel & polish the entire bolt with flitz, simichrome, or maas metal polish.

After installing the bolt in the receiver, lube it with some "break-free clp".

All previous replies are very good and should get the job done. .... ;)
I have worked on quite a few of these and have observed that the bolt, is made of some special steel or that face is plated. Now, I say this is because that face has a high polish that wouild not be possible on carbine steel. I have jeweled this face on a couple of bolts and it stays shiney. Not only should yours clean up nicely but you should be able to restore the shine. As mentined, Flitz or Mother's Mag should work for that shine. .. ;)
