is it a new issue for Canada?
Availability of firearms in US, that is, not the rising violence. Didn't think so. US firearm laws, if anything, became stricter over years. I therefore fail to see the correlation between US and this new rise of violence in Canada, and it makes me wonder why noone from opposing parties threw this obviousness into him yet.
This historical perspective clearly shows that the venerable PM chooses to ignore real reasons in favor of diversions. Everyone above the age of 14 should be able to guess why he is doing it.
I'm having a mild case of deja vu here; Netherlands and their drug policies come to mind. While Dutch themselves rightfully enjoy some real successes resulting their liberal position, the neigboring countries accuse it exactly the way Canada accuses US. Even the vocabulary is similar. I still recall reading that biased, unbalanced, highly anecdotal, and factually inaccurate report of McCaffrey [edited: wrote up a wrong name due to a Freudian slip at first], a notorious critic of the Dutch policies in Clinton administration, who made laughing stock of himself and the administration by that report.
I predict: if handguns are outlawed in Canada... and are somehow taken out of circulation (easier said than done)... if it ever happens... long guns will become primary tools of murder, and it will be their turn next. Knives will follow shortly after.
