Torn!

Hi!
I'm torn between 2 guns to buy as a carry gun- a S&W model 60 357 or a 340PD
I have shot the 60 seemed ok but a lttle heavy. I Haven't shot the 340PD
but boy, It felt nice in my hand! I hear they got a pretty mean kick in 357.
and i do plan on shootng it a fair amount.
Any suggestions? Thanks in advance!

PS love this forum--I could browse all day! :)

Greeting's FP-74 My Friend-

My recommendation would have to rest with the S&W model 60 (.357
magnum), given the fact that you are thinking of doing a lot of shooting.
The 340PD would be a nice carry gun; but its heavy recoil with magnum
loads would be a beast for sure. :D

Best Wishes,

I agree with Ala Dan. I would go with the M60 if you're planning to do a decent amount of shooting. How are you planning to carry? That would be my second consideration. M60 in a pocket is okay for some, too heavy for others.

If you plan to shoot a fair amount, get the steel frame.
I have the S&W Model 649 "Bodyguard" (essentially an M60 with a shrouded hammer). At 23oz, it'll handle most of the +P .38 specials fine. When you fire .357 Magnums it becomes a handful. 158gr .357 rounds torque the grip in my hand, requiring readjustment of the grip between shots. Firing in an alloy frame would be ...ah... "unpleasant".

I had a 640 .357, hammerless version of the M60 and found it too heavy for all-day pocket carry. Of course it was fine to drop in a pocket for a quick trip to the store, but not all-day. It carried great in an IWB holster as would your M60. If you want something for a lot of shooting, definitely the 60 between those two.
