TOP GUN took our money! Help us find him.

TOP GUN is a frequent poster here and on Glock Talk. He advertised Glock mags, took money from quite a few people in December, and has not sent the mags yet. He has read his email but will not respond to any of us. We have called his home but seem to get nowhere. His name is Michael, Charles or Scott Romer. More information is available at http://glocktalk.com/ in the Front Office section called Top Gun Thread. His various email addresses are:

topgun@talarion.com
Scott90501@aol.com
topgung31@aol.com

If you can help the police investigation, please contact the detective at his email address noted in this section.

Those of us who buy, sell and trade through this forum need to be aware that some people cannot be trusted.

If I am not mistaken, this is the same guy that also ripped cohiba of AR15 forum for some high capacity mags for Glock.

E'ville,
The next time you order somthing like that, use a postal money order. This will involve postal inspectors who are kinda bored, and love any small criminal cases. Ripping folks off through the mail is a serious thing though, and postal fraud is bad voodoo. Sorry you got ganked but maybe this will help next time.

I have not had problems making firearms related purchases yet. However, I have had a problem with a rare auto part purchase. The final agreement took place by phone so I had no written evidence. Then the individual didn't properly package the items that were sent. It was a rare antique hilborn fuel injection system. Now I have to rebuild it. There was insurance. But UPS says that they only look at packaging as a free service. Not as an approval of packaging. They say that if it was destroyed in shipping then obviously the item was not packaged properly in the first place, negating an insurance claim.

I know this doesn't help. But now I always do agreements in writing. I have always used postal money orders due to the fact that they are tracable and the post office people must really need to justify their existance.

Maybe the best thing to do would be to place some wanted ads as bait for this guy. What do you think? Criminals are generally stupid and greedy which leads them to get caught. We should handle further discussion in that regard as e-mail instead of posting it here.

Okay, I've stayed quiet for a while, but I goota speak up now. Look, I understand that you are upset at this individual. If he did in fact "take your money", fine. Go after him. I just don't think this is the right place to post these kind of "grievences". This same complaint was permitted to be posted at Glocktalk for too long, in my opinion, but they eventually told everyone to STOP, and began locking threads. I don't know, nor do I care to know, the facts of this case. In my opinion, this was a private transaction between two individuals, and should be treated as such. If you aren't happy with the outcome, there are several courses of action that are available to you. I don't however feel that it is necessary, or even reasonable, to start yet another post about this same incident. It has turned into such a headache for the guys at Glocktalk that they have opened a specific thread in their "front office" forum that is intended ONLY FOR THOSE DIRECTLY INVOLVED. They have had to create ground rules, etc. If you've gotten stiffed, I'm sorry, but this is not the place to rant and rave about it. I realize that I am not a moderator and I have no say in what is posted here, but I truly enjoy the vast collection of knowledge and information shared here, and would hate for this to turn into another major annoyance, as it has on other forums. You may have a legitimate concern, but do you really feel that this is the right place to gripe and groan about it? Again, sorry if I seem short, I just don't want to see this place go down the same road others have.

You suggest we (there are at least 10 of us!) go after him. This is what I am trying to do. The detective investigating has asked us to get as much info as possible, including a list of everyone he has ripped off. I am not ranting and raving about it and this is the only place I can get additional information for the investigation. If you don't like it, don't read it. It seems to me this really is none of your business if you haven't sent him money, is it? If you carefully read my post you will see it is not inflammatory or disrespectful at all. My goal is to get our money back or get the magazines and to prevent others from getting hurt. Period.

On Glock Talk many expressed opinions that showed ignorance and immaturity, I agree. Let's not let that happen here. We do need information about this guy, though.

Thank you.

e'ville,
I have sent you an e-mail, because I may owe you an appology. I also feel that perhaps I need to clarify what I have posted. From what I've seen in the past week or so, there are several threads at various forums that have started, as yours has, with a simple request for help or information. These have turned ugly as people who are uninvolved have jumped into the flame frenzy. My post was simply a request that this not turn out that way. People have been posting his home phone number, address, and other information on these threads. As you have pointed out, that is simply irresponsible. I also feel that with the tone of your post, especially the subject line "Top Gun took our money", you are inviting this kind of behavior from those who are not involved or those who have no idea what you're refering to. All I am asking is that when we post, we use good judgement and understand that our actions, here in the form of posts or replies, carry responsibilities that may result in consequesces, whether intended or not. Please don't take this as an attack. If that's how it came across, I am sorry. Good luck to you, and all of those involved, I hope you are able to get this worked out.
-John
