Top 5 Semi Auto Sub Compacts

I need opinions from guys who have owned at least 7 or more Semi Auto Sub Compacts to rate the Top 5 they have used. And then the gun that gave them the best bang for the buck.

Beretta 9000S
S&W 3913
Sig 239
1911 Officer's Models (various manufactures)
Colt Detective
S&W Chief's Special:)

1. Glock 26 or 27
2. Sig P239
3. Smith & Wesson 3913
4. Walther PPK
5. Kahr

Beretta's Cougar almost made it, as did the Bersa Thunder;
but the limit was five.:eek: :D :)

Best Wishes,
Ala Dan, N.R.A. Life Member

1. Baby Glock (26, 27 and 33)
2. SIG P239
3. SIG P230/232
4. Glock 29
5. Para-Ordnance P12.45

Best bang for the buck in my collection? I'd have to go with the SIG/Mauser M2. Got mine for $350, but NIB MSRP is less than $450.

Best bang for the buck in handguns has to be the Makarov. A bill and a half gets you an all-steel pistol with proven reliability.

1 - Kahr MK40
2 - Kahr P9
3 - Colt Pocket Nine
4 - Colt Pony Pocketlite (.380)
5 - Walther PPK/S (380)

The Kahr 40 is a Pocket Monster! Controllable and very powerful.

The Kahr P9 is small and light but I sold it to get a Colt Pocket nine which is smaller and lighter.

I sold the Colt due to parts availability issues (there ain't none!)

I kept one of the Pony Pocketlites (had two) which my smith melted and tuned for me, with Triton QuikShok it is a very potent pocket size pistol.

The Walther is a great gun and it is reliable if you break it in well but it has too much snap for a .380. The other four above it are locked breech guns and don't (with the exception of the 40) have the snap of a Walther PPK.

I had a very small custom Kimber in .45 but I was unable to reliably control it. Others with stronger wrists have no problem but I just could not quickly get off a second shot with any kind of accuracy. Paid a grand for that gun and regretted it from the first time I shot it. Sold it for what I paid for it less taxes so it was not too painful to get out of it.

The next one on my list is a PM9 from Kahr which is supposed to ship in May. It is a very small 9mm that weighs about 15 ounces. It is nearly dimensionally identical to the Colt Pocket Nine, but unlike the Colt, you will be able to get spare parts for the Kahr (if you shoot it enough to need them).

1 Kahr K/MK series
2 CZ 83
3 Smith 39**
4 NAA Guardian 380
5 Sig 239-232

Lots of good choices...I wanted to add a tiny 1911 to my list but cant comment first hand on them...shoot well

kahr and kimber get my vote

For sub a sub compact I really like my little Kahr, K9 Elite. For a compact, got to go with my stainless Kimber Compact in 45 ACP. Sam :)

Sub Compacts

Sig P 245
Sig P 239 .357 Sig
Detonics Combat Master 1911
Sphinx Compact 9mm Swiss CZ
Hk P7 9mm
HK USP Compact 45
Glock 27 40 S&W

Those are my non revolver compact auto pistols for concealed carry. Only one I'd sell would be the HK USP Compact.Only one I'd never sell, the HK P7. Best bang for the buck, thats easy.The Glock 27 is pretty hard to beat

A very tough choice, so listed in alphabetical order:

Glocks (Midsize 23 for 7 years plus 3 calibers of "babys" later)

Kahr (Steel Lady K-9)

Makarovs

1. Kahr K/MK series in 9mm or .40

2. SIG P229 or P226 in any caliber

3. Any Glock

4. Almost any tuned 1911

5. Third generation S&W autos in 9mm, .40 and 10mm

1) Kahr MK9
2) Kahr MK40
3) Kahr P40
4) Glock 27
5) Walther PPK/S (.380)

Now I know not many folks will agree with my choices, but this is just how I rank the mini-guns I own/have owned. I'm going off comfortable carry, size, weight, cost of range time, and the overall ":D" factor I get when I look at them.

If the Glock wasn't so fat, it would be higher... but not as high as the MK9.

Of that top five, I no longer own the MK40 and PPK/S.

Not on the list that I have owned are the Kahr K40, Glock 26, Kahr P9, Kel-Tec P32, and AMT Backup.

For the record, sub-compacts have always been a huge favorite of mine.

1) HK P7M8;
2) Colt SS LW Officers ACP;
3) Glock 30;
4) SIG 239;
5) SIG P-228

Best weapon, and the one I never should have let get away. HK P7M8! :cool:

TOP FIVE

  • 1) Glock 36

    2) Glock 26

    3) Makarov

    4) Kahr MK-9

    5) Walther P5

Most bang for buck: Glock 36 due to multiple carry options!!! :)
