Tool to extract 12Ga. Shells

Hi,

Does anyone know a tool to extract fired shells from a 12Ga. Shotgun ?

I saw this weekend at the club a remington folder (pocket knife) that had, between other functions, like blade, saw and a screw driver, a "clamp" to extract the shell from the gun.

I serched the knives from remington, winchester, beretta, leatherman and gerber, and couldn't find one.

Thanks in advance,

The trigger doesn't work very well as an extractor, in my experience. A ramrod does work well, though. :D

I'm not understanding why one would want/need a hand held tool to extract shells, unless the gun was not working properly.

My Beretta has a choke wrench which also has a shell extractor and I've actually used it ! It's their "multi-purpose tool ", 5" long ,with screw driver, drift pin, shotshell extractor, and choke wrench .:)

That's the problem.
I have an old O/U with an automatic extractor, and sometimes, the extractos passes thru the rim of the shell, jamming the gun. The only way to extract the shell is with a cleaning rod or with something that clamps to the shell.

I know, I know... I should fix the gun, but, as I said, it's an old gun, and there's no replacement parts avalable for it.

It's just a matter of cost.

Thanks again,

Better watch it with the pocket knife - I had a 3" magnum shell get stuck in my 12 gauge at the range one day and tried to wiggle the sucker outta there only to lodge the blade 1" deep inbetween my thumb and index finger . I was *trying* to be cautious the whole time, entirely mindful of the possibility of slicing myself. Obviously, I wasn't trying hard enough. I went to the doctor after a couple of days of not being able to feel anything in my trigger finger. He said it was too late to get stitches and sent me on my way with some antibiotics. Thankfully, most of the feeling has returned in my index finger, but it still feels tingly if I rub the side by the last joint.

Be careful! In hindsight, I would have used a cleaning rod to smash the thing out.

Are switchblades legal in Brazil?

If so, you could order one of these:

If not, you could contact the factory and see if you could order one without the blade.

Most shotgun ranges I’ve been to have wooden ¼” X 3’ wooden dowel rods laying around that are used to extract spent casing that are stuck.

How about a Ballistics Products Inc. Wad Popper?

I looked through the Beretta website and they have the Multi-tool but only for 28/410. If you don't have a rod to clear it you could get a brass cylinder large diameter but short . You just drop the weight down the barrel to clear the shell.
