Tool marks in new barrel

I just bought this rifle. Judging by the picture would you send it back for another barrel? seem this one has too many tool marks inside and causes it to foul badly.

It's not the lite marks on top of the lands that would bother me...those willl smooth out...the radial rougness (proably grooving rahter thn ridges...hard to tell from a photo) look like a problem. as they seem to cross acroass the lands as well as dig into teh grooves.

Might work that barrel out, but if there is a "worst" place to havve that kind of roughness, it would be at the muzzle.

If you just bought it and are not happy with workmanship, I'd send it back.

An alternative is to put an 11 degree target crown on the barrel, making sure the marks on the lands will clean up.

Remember that factory barrels only cost $20-30, so workmanship is often spotty.

How deep are the mark down the barrel. I'm a machinist and I'd send it back. Tool maks inside the receiver I could live with but I'd draw the line with them being there.
It looks like the lands and grooves are marked.
If you don't want to send it back you could alway get the Barnes finishing bullets. They're in different sizes with abrasives on the bullet to clean out any imperfections.

The Tubbs Final Finish bore polishing system uses abrasive-coated bullets to smooth out rough bores. You can buy them from Midway, Cabelas, Brownells. The bullets must be handloaded following directions. I have heard good things about the system, but never tried it myself.

I agree with mxwelch, if those tool marks extend down the barrel, return it for exchange or repair...what manufacturer is that?

It that's a CZ, send it back quick as CZ barrels are hammer forged and that's a button rifled barrel and a rough one, to boot. The machining marks are very close to the muzzle and will effect the accuracy potential of your rifle. Looks like the button was chattering as it was pulled through the bore. These type marks in the grooves are common in a production barrel, albeit to a lesser degree but the marks on the lands are very troubling. One of the fire lapping systems will help copper fouling but by the time you've shot enough abrasive through it to smooth it out, the chamber is gonna be moved way forward.
