Took My Grandson Shooting today...pics

Kylar and I have not been shooting for a month or so (he started shooting in July)...the weather was great so we went out back and banged on the steel plates.

He's 4yrs old...so his attention span varies from 5-15 minutes. We managed 10 minutes today.

He shoots a neat little rifle. A Savage Cub. It's a single shot.22 LR youth-rifle. It has an Accu-Trigger and a handy peep-sight. The blue is very nice as is the laminated stock.

We shoot from 25 yards.

Here's a couple pics...as you can see, he loads, shoots, unloads and reloads...

Good job with the Grandson, looks like he is taking to it very well.

I hope he is wearing ear plugs to go along with the glasses. Ya know, good habits can't start too early.

I love the look of intense concentration in the third pic!!!!

All Business!!!

You should crop that, blow it up and get it framed!

Thanks guys...

This young man does not even get close to the range (when hot) without eyes and ears.

I also love that third pic. I'd been working with him to make sure he uses his right eye...when young folks start shooting, they can try to use the "off" eye to sight down the barrel. He's doing good.

We're buddies.

Kylar was busy today...here he is after he helped me get a second trail-cam installed.

Try reactive targets: little boys (and many little girls, too!) never tire of breaking things.

My personal favorite is Easter eggs..... we have a large extended family, and a family tradition of dying easter eggs ...... "dozens of dozens" of them each spring ..... I like egg salad .....up to a point. After our Easter egg hunt (with the plasic eggs) we have another easter egg "hunt" .... errr, "shoot", actually ..... .22lr hollow points and target velocity .38's hitting easter eggs will kick over just about any kids giggle box!

GREAT!!!!

Sure brings back memories of my two boys at that age. Must have done something right 'cause ones a LEO and the other is the father of a beautiful little blonde princes, who aleady has her first single shot ( Hamilton #27) in the safe. Good to see eyes & ears on too!!! Keep up the good work.

Thanks for the kind replies.

Most steel targets we use do "react" a bit....at least you hear "DING, BONG, GONG or TING"

He's a bit new to our sport for the smaller steel plates that spin or fall when hit....for now, he likes the "DING" of the large (green in pic) steel plate he's aiming for (with Grand-Bob's help).

Kids are what it's all about for me. I sure enjoy helping them learn about shooting and hunting.

jimbob86,
Those Easter Egg shoots sound grand!! I will try that!

shootniron,
That ol' girl is Reeda....and yes, she makes the rounds. She's a German Short haired Pointer....13 1/2yrs old now and loves every day of retirement.
She does get into some pics!

I'm jealous my grandson is only 2-1/2, I have to wait a couple of years! Glad you can spend quality time with him.
