Took a Kid shooting yesterday

My son and I took his best friends 'Lil sister out to the range yesterday to teach her to shoot. He had spoken to her about shooting and got her interested in trying it out. (he's a good boy)
We started with the .22's. pistol, revolver and then rifle. Before the first magazine was emptied on the pistol she was hitting the X (15ft)! And was hitting the gong with the 4x scoped 22rifle @ 100meters once she figured the hold over-my son called the shot for her and then she pinged 'em...
I had sighted it in @25 for her to get used to it-but that was too close!
After a couple of hundred rounds I asked her if she wanted to try bigger guns-picture little hands clapping.
She didn't like shooting the 9mm Glock, backstrap too rough on her hands, and was not impressed with the 1911 45, but absolutly LOVED the .357 magnum revolver! (full power 158gn loads too)
Biggest grin and most evil giggle.... :D
Took both her thumbs to cock it...
Finally had to stop her before she shot all my 357 ammo-note to self, don't bring all your ammo to the range...
Grasped the idea of safeties on guns pretty quick too, you and your finger are the first safety, the ones on the guns are just extra!
Full safety gear too, hat, (not going to have a hot shell drop in her hair first day!) glasses, ear plugs & muffs-learned the 4 rules and listened to my lectures on safe handling.
Such a sweet girl!

Way kewl my friend,,,

I can think of very few things more fun,,,
Than introducing a new shooter to the sport.

I've done it a few times myself,,,
It's very gratifying.

Keep up the good work.

Well done sir. Very well done indeed, hopefully she will take to shooting but, if she should not she will at lest have an understanding of what it is and not have an unknowing knee jerk fear reaction. And as mentioned in other replies it is fun to watch a new shooter 'get it' and really have fun.

The kids I shoot with will go until the first critical resource is exhausted. We try very hard to make sure that's time, daylight, or ammo and not adult endurance. Kid endurance has yet to be a factor.:D

You didn't include the age and from the picture it looks like under 18.
Just as a reminder to others, many states have law's where there needs to be permition from parents before we can allow another youth to fire any kind of firearm, even a air rifle (BB gun).
I take youngsters to my hunting shack with my grand children and always have to make contact with parents and I am fully aware that having permition in writing is best but I have not done that.
But I also want to add, Well Done! :)

I think it is wise to have a parent's permission even if it is not legally required.

I have a different problem: The 14-year-old half brother of my future son-in-law has asked me to take him shooting, but the kid relentlessly argues about silly stuff when he is wrong. As an example, during a televised game yesterday he argued about a football rule for several minutes, even though each of four or five other, older, more knowledgeable people in the room told him he was mistaken and tried to educate him. I really worry about taking an unteachable kid to a range and letting him handle a loaded firearm. Ain't going to happen until his attitude turns around.

Yep she is under 18, and you betcha I had her Moms permission!
Mom is not anti-gun just un-gun....
I taught her son, since he is my sons best friend and spends a lot of time here, my son and I shoot so I felt it best that he became firearms aware. I spoke to his Mom and she agreed to let me teach him.
Plus video games give really bad ideas.
Now he knows they aren't "toys" and knows how to safely handle one.
Ditto little sister this weekend.

Lil' sister was way super excited so she has an open invitation to go back any time. After I stock back up on .357s...

Now their Mom is feeling left out so hopefully soon she go to the range and a non-shooter will have a chance to form a real opinion.

I grew up around guns and didn't discover for a long time that a whole lot of people haven't a clue about them except what they see on TV or in the movies. And that is what it takes folks, offer to teach and let neutral and un-gun people try, so many people never have a chance to learn how to shoot and discover guns aren't evil.
