Too much for Colt XSE?

I saw a real nice looking Colt XSE at the gunshow today in Atlanta. It was new, and the dealer was asking $899, plus tax. I got him down to $850, plus tax. I decided that was still a little steep, and told him I would think about it.

So I take in the rest of the show, and end up going back to him, only to find some guy is in the process of buying for the $899 price plus tax.

Do you think an XSE is really worth that? I know they are hard to find, and after all it is a real Colt, but is it any better than kimber, springfield, etc?

Hang in there, Colt prices are coming down. I have seen the 1991A1 for $479 and in stainless for $549 at gun shows recently. Granted that is $100-150 more than 18 months ago but less than 6 months ago. If you are patient I would expect you to see that XS drop in Feb if Bush takes office.

Yes! You can still find the original Colt XS for that much or lower. Keep in mind the XSE is enhanced down from the XS. The XSE has military-type sites, no ambi safety, and is also missing a couple of other featues.

Search auctions like...for some ideas on price. Keep in mind that buying on-line involves shipping charges (usually no more than $30) and someone with an FFL to receive the shipment. However, you won't pay taxes if it is an interstate transaction.

I don't know either anymore. The Colts I've seen recently look good and their reputation is certainly improving, but the prices around here seem high - even for a new improved Colt.
If you do decide to go with a Colt, I know where you can get a stainless Gold Cup Trophy. Reportedly from the custom shop and only $1150. I was in a local store Thursday afternoon and they had new Colts piled high on the back counter.
No need to hurry making a decision on the stainless GCT, there were 5 of them in that delivery. Rumor has it Colt is working hard to make money and all prices look high at my age. John
