Tonights ABC Rant Against the NRA

Just saw on ABC's GMA a promo piece about tonights "Peter Jennings Reporting", 7:00 p.m. CDT. From the current TV Guide: "A look at the NRA and its political clout features an interview with NRA president Charlton Heston. Included: the NRA's history; visits to gun shows and conventions; interviews with other NRA members."

From what I saw this mornign it will be more of the same because we equate registration with confication; we did not have the correct view after Columbine. They will take a look at one congressman that dared to make one vote against the NRA and what happened to him. Need I say more about this beign an anti piece. I would be surprised if they say one good thing aobut us.

That is 8 pm est on abc--
more NRA Bashing--yet another attempt to brainwash us into pollitically correct thinking!
Yet another attempt by the media to boster
Gore in a round about manor, probably by
attempting to "link, somehow" Bush to the NRA.
I like that word "Link".

"LINK" allows the media to "infer" all kinds of illegal alligations
without one schred of proof or any fear of legal remedies.

Wheres my rain poncho, that case of toilet paper and my hip waders; I can hardly wait!

Lets put a 12 x 12 plastic drop sheet down in front of the tv screen!

IT MUST BE TRUE, I SAW IT ON CBS!!!
Yea, sure ,right, un hun!

That got me thinking what the initials CBS
truly stand for Continious Bull S~~t.

And you still dont see how your are
following their orders word for word.
'The NRA is fighting guncontrol, the NRA is
Clintons eneymy its the NRA that has stopped all these gunlaws the NRA wont compromise'
they didnt have to spout any of that rhetoric too many times before you beleived it now did they?
Ever wonder why the NRA is given all the credit by the media when the congressmen the NRA backs are the ones that are compromising everytime?
Ever wonder why other smaller ones are left out of the sotligtht,if they have such miniscule affect on congress why not mention them and their 'extreme' views.

The least exspensive way to drain your enemy and make sure hes never able to make a successful attack against you is to lead him into pouring his resources into a bottomless pit or a battle he cant or wont win.
Or even better lead your enemy into supporting your ally but make this ally out to be your worst enemy when such one would never attack you.

I missed the beginning because I wanted to see Rush Limbaugh on Hardball, and quite frankly, forgot about this piece. But from what i have seen so far, it is nothing but another ABC hatchet job. Or did I miss something really positive in the beginning?

Peter Jennings,
I was so impressed with his liberal media excellance. I felt fortunate to be able to watch such a superb piece. You can fill in the any words around piece that you want!
Just my national media cynial nature showing through!
Hachet Job!

Damn! Damn! Damn! The ABC NRA special was a hatchet job of historic proportions!!!

I can't believe al of the omissions and the outright propaganda that ABC aired tonight! There was one hell of a lot more to the vote that Democrat Bart Stupak sold the NRA out on than what they said. They actually tried to make Ed Shultz of S&W out to be some kind of innocent victim of the NRA as well. It was total BS from beginning to end. Unfreakin believable!!! I pray that this backfires on ABC and the gun grabbers big time!

Please, send money to the NRA-ILA and to Stupak's opponet if you can!

Yeah, typical major news media attempt at marginalizing us. They did thier best to make the NRA look like selfish ideologues on a power trip. It will be interesting to see how Mr Stupac does in the election in N. Michigan this year though.
Dispite ABCs best efforts, the NRAs message was stated repeatedly by LaPierre and other NRA people. I'll bet that there is a surge of memberships in the next few days.
I really disliked the way they understated the terms of the S&W sellout and then failed to mention just how effective the boycott is in denying S&W the market position they formerly had. But all in all it wasn't any worse than I expected it to be, and certainly no better.

Poor Ed Schultz whined:"Communism's dead so you might as well attack Smith & Wesson".

I guess he sold his soon-to-be worthless S&W stock, and he will now join Sarah Brady on the lecture circuit bashing the NRA.

I thought the NRA looked great on the ABC show, but I was biased to begin with. I agree with the opening statement "It's not about gun control, it's about power" but not for the same reasons as Peter(less) Jennings.

They also showed Al Gore as 100% pro-NRA for 16 years, then he switched just for the NY primary in his 1988 Pres. campaign. They made no attempt to defend Al Gore's flip-flop, and said he did it for NY votes! So I enjoyed the show very much, and although they tried to diminish the NRA, they failed.

this was a pure, unbiased report on the power of the NRA to corrupt the election process. next week will be one on the trial lawyers and thier millions o bucks.
yeah, right!
Well, the NRA propaganda is working on this mindless member. I'm sending an extra check out tomorrow to the NRA-PVF and one to our local NRA-endorsed congressional candidate.
I don't own a TV. I had to borrow one to watch this krap. I guess the money I save on cable should go to protect our freedom.

On the Positive side, do you think 'they' are scared, I mean you don't see groups like the AARP get 1 million members in one year! They are trying to attack the NRA and discredit us, I hope it helps to further galvanize the gun owner, freedom loving people of America!

The Gore/media camp is getting worried they
want to link Bush to the NRA. far right,
anyway they can to win the election, trust
me it will get worse before election day.!!

Write ABC and let them know what you think about this extended Gore campaign ad!

Any facade of objectivity their network might have retained has been cast aside in an all out effort to get Gore elected. Tell them you won't forget this, win or lose. The next time ABC cries about its journalistic "independence" in any public matter you can inform them they'll get nothing but laughs from you. Tell them that the next time anyone proposes campaign finance reform you won't agree unless ABC News' operating budget is counted toward the Democrats' spending limits.

I suppose the _good_ news to draw from this is that the Democrats are worried. They see Bush beginning to build a lead, they think the economic issues alone won't get things back for them, and so it's time to get nasty.

I am no fan of Jennings nor ABC news, however, I think it is important to the debate to raise issues on both sides. We hear the NRA line all the time and have come to accept it without question. Jennings did raise a few good points and I did not see LaPierre answer all the questions to my satisfaction, especailly the number of porsecutions by the states and the federal government. He was evasive when asked directly as to his participation in getting rid of the congressman and encouraging someone to run against him. I sorry, but there can not be any chinks in the armor here. Either you lie or you don't. The only way to play this game is straight up with the american people. The truth does get through, just as Gore is starting to his come uppings for his lies. Wayne should have known better then to have answered those questions in that way. It made him appear like Clinton.

This program was skillfully done. This was about electing Gore and temporarily neutralizing the NRA in key states. This program was part of the Gore for President game. First, it makes Gore the enemy of the NRA. Second, it shows that the NRA will do anything to destroy its enemies. Third, Peter Jennings finishes by saying, "With the elections four weeks off, we will see if gun owners vote this single issue, or do they vote on the broader issues." The take home message was, vote for Bush if only consider guns, but Gore is right on all other issues. I don't think that "Rats" was a subtle way of influencing viewers, buy I know that this piece was about promoting Gore.

A common penal code item on guns is usually bartered away by the feds as some slap on the wrist. Lets say it was 600. Jennings said the convictions were for state charges to get that number. So why do we need federal law for the same thing. I got a note to renew early, so I'll show Jennings and ABC my reaction by upgrading my dues for myself, my wife and three boys. MWT

Short answer-- don't watch this garbage on TV-- these people are not our friends. Everything on TV revolves around some kind of conflict, so you'll stay put thru the commercials.
Recall the Impeachments subtle message? "Facts don't matter anymore- spin does..."
TV is all spin, all the time...

Yes, the show was a deliberate hatchet job designed to undercut the NRA. And Wayne LaPierre showed once again that he's not our best spokesperson.

But the strongest message that emerged from the show was that the NRA is a powerful political force that means business. I cna live with that.

Ya know, I liked the thing Peterless said about the Smith and Wesson boycot effecting their sales, therefore the other companies did not settle. ;)
Definite hatchet job on the part of ABC as usual.

Actually, Jennings made it clear that those were Federal prosecutions, not state. Nation-wide, state prosecutions for firearms crimes averaged between 24k and 26k from 1994 to 1998.

Jennings different prosecution number is probably because he got numbers from the White House or another source. NRA got its numbers from an organization called TRAC at Syracuse University. TRACs legal FOIA request for Federal prosecution data was denied by the Clinton/Gore Administration and TRAC is suing to get access to those records. That may be why the numbers are different... in any case, I think we can all agree that 605 out of 250,000 isn't any much better than 1 out of 250,000.
