Tommy Gun mags...again

I apologize for beating this to death, but if I buy some GI-type stick magazines for my 1927A1 Thompson, will they work "as is" or do I have to modify them to fit the gun? According to Auto-Ordnance's website, their magazines for the 1927A1 cost $55 each. Forrest inc, in Shotgun News, offers 3 30 round stick mags with a pouch for $45. What A Country offers 6 stick mags with pouch for $79. Do you think I'm better off buying from the factory or taking a chance with the above mentioned deals? Again sorry for beating this to death, but with the big price discrepancies, I just want to be sure. Thank you.

GI Joe. If either of the companies has a decent return policy, I'd try theirs to see if they work. From what I have sen, they appear to be the same.

I have had limited experience with your problem and the answer to the question is no! You will have to modify the catch hole, it has to an oval shape, with the new oval toward the top of the mag. I had some and took a drill bit and reamed the top of the hole a little bit at a time untill it fit. No big problem really. The distance between the mag catch on a 27A1 is shorter than a 28. Hence the hole has to be elongated.

PLEASE don't modify drum magazines to fit the new Model 1927A1 semi. The 1000 round drums are well over $1000 and even 50 rounders go for a couple of hundred. Preserve these - there won't be any more.
