Tokarev Slide Release Question

Hello,

When I try to release an empty magazine from my Tokarev and press the magazine release button all the way down, the slide release falls down from the slide and the slide flies forward. My other Tokarev does not do this. Any idea what is causing this or how to fix it?

Thank you,

John

...or, the notch in the slide for the slide stop could be worn.

Does it happen with more than one mag? Maybe the slide stop tab inside the pistol gets caught on the mag follower, and the mag pulls it down.

It happens with two mags. The notch on the slide is not worn, it looks the same as my other tokarev. It seems like the magazine release is the thing that knocks the slide release loose, because whenever I press the mag release, even before the mag slides out at all, the slide release slips.

The slide stop spring in the Tokarev is the split spring that also retains AND TENSIONS the slide stop. If that spring is broken, worn, or missing, the slide stop may act as you indicate. Also, if the slide stop slips below the magazine follower, the condition will also happen. The latter is usually the result of installing the slide stop with the magazine in place.

I switched the slides on my tokarevs just to check - I believe the problem is that the slide stop notch on the slide is not the right angle. They look almost identical between the two slides, but the other slide worked properly in the Tokarev that's matching Serial Number slide was slipping. I think I will just leave it be - the gun looks almost unused, but it could have been worn before it was "arsenal rebelled", so it currently shows no wear. Is that possible?
