Doesn't look like the votes are there to pass it.
After spinning its wheels for most of the day Tuesday, the Senate set up a series of gun votes for Wednesday, including what has become the critical fight — a proposal to expand background checks to include all sales at gun shows and over the Internet, though it would exclude person-to-person private sales.

I saw one report that said it has only 38 votes!


Two other measures are bipartisan, one to crack down on gun trafficking and another to bolster mental health treatment.

Probably because these two have been the most needed...

How about the part where they actually enforce the 4473!?

Either way, the administration gets what it wants - some sort of "gun control" measure passing the Senate or the opportunity to bash the hell out of Republicans for "obstructing" their noble attempts to fight "gun crimes".

I saw a poll, only 4% consider gun control a big issue... Obama already has their votes.

Once again, Obama is focusing on the wrong priorities, as he has done his entire administration... pushing Obamacare when the economy was in shambles being the first and most obvious case.

He should STILL be pushing jobs... and still is focusing in the wrong place.
This won't help the Dems in 2016... The Repubs, who I am not a fan of either, can honestly say... 8 years of Dem leadership, where are the jobs?

Back to topic...
Obama is already defeated, that's why he's upped his rhetoric on news interviews, etc... lying about police opinion, etc... Political desperation is quite visible.
 
I don't want to speculate too much about this, but it does seem to appear that most of what was originally being fought for will not clear the senate. Even if it does, congress will likely block it once it reaches them. Hopefully the results will be out soon.
 
Per Yahoo News:

Democratic Sens. Mark Begich of Alaska, Heidi Heitkamp of North Dakota, Mark Pryor of Arkansas and Max Baucus of Montana voted against it. (Sen. Harry Reid of Nevada switched his vote to no at the end, a procedural tactic that allows him to bring it up for a vote later.) In addition to Toomey, Republicans who supported the amendment were Sens. Mark Kirk of Illinois, Susan Collins of Maine and John McCain of Arizona.
 
So Senator Schumer(NY) just said that amendment 719(Constitutional Concealed Carry) would be a disaster in New York. He said that this is a states' rights issue and shouldn't be forced upon the rest of the country because it would work in one or two states.

So apparently, it's OK to force states to abide by a background check law that you co-sponsor, but not for amendment 719. Gotcha.
