Today's headline: Germany remembers Krisallnacht

One might wonder what has changed since that time. Hmmm, Germans cannot own weapons which most of them could in 1938. Certain political parties are outlawed (meant to control Nazies but now applied to right-wingers). Lovely situation, makes me worry that much more for my relatives there. Sad.

On the positive note, they aren't killing off that many people at any one time now. Hope that stays.

I was surprised at the protests - they had a nazi sign with a red slash through it. I know that swastikas are verboten in Germany - guess they're not if you have a red slash through'em.

Remember - Hitler was basically just a social democrat who decided to stop calling elections.

He wasn't right wing wrt. how we get called right wing. Did you ever see him running around calling for personal freedom and tax cuts?

No freedom of speech = no freedom of speech.

Hey OLEG,
It won't stay that way very long. You may have jumped out of the frying pan, into the fire.

I Russia, I was born after the endgame. Here, I arrived in time to watch and participate. My Garand here is muttering "not so fast, Commies!"

Battler - I'm sure to be flamed for this, but...

"Remember - Hitler was basically just a social democrat who decided to stop calling elections."

Are you for real? I lost 8 family members to that lunatic. How many other "social democrats" can I say that about? BTW, you forgot to mention that he built some nice roads!

I think Battler has a point...take a look at Hitler's platform and it might look saner than a few from our recent election...just that he's got good at scapegoating. Current Russian leadership sure learned a lot from him as far as their mix of economic and foreign policy goes.

(I lost family to that '39-'45 event, too...just saying, I hate his spiritual successors as much as the original)

Oleg,
Take a look at the Constitution of the USSR. It included many protections and rights for Soviet citizens.

But you, more than anyone else here, know how the Constitution was ignored and violated. The despotic nature of man ruled supreme. Survival of the fittest, in a relatively modern environment, was a fact of life.
-----

All,

We must ensure that OUR Constitution is restored. It is violated by law, word and deed every single day - because we permit it.

We must reform the mess we have for a government. We must restore our Constitution.

Every other social issue is a distraction, a red herring used by the government to divide and conquer us. They appeal to our greed and childish selfishness.

We need to be adults if we are to be free. The current election proves most Americans are currently unworthy of our country. We must exert our political will and educate our people if we are to preserve our Republic.

Let's start with the Second Amendment.

Our Kristallnacht has not been a single short period of violence. Our Kristallnacht has been the gradual but inexorable erosion of our Bill of Rights.

We must recognize that we are less free than at any time in our history. We must reverse that trend and restore our freedoms.

Let us begin in unity, using peaceful means. Only if our government is not responsive to us, or resorts to force do we have the right to resort to force.

(pause)

Oh. That's right. Our government *IS* no longer responsive to us. Our government uses force daily and frequently brags about it (eg. Waco, Ruby Ridge).

We're behind the power curve folks. Unite!

Either you believe in the Second Amendment or you don't.
Stick it to 'em! RKBA!

Dennis: You say that like it's a good thing (it is).

But most people have been conned into the illogical.

For example, the notion that you can trade one freedom for another. For example, if you take away the freedom of right-to-work (i.e. laws that you can't be fired), you gain the freedom of not having to worry about having to lose your job.

But back to the point, yours is a minority opinion. With the full ramifications of the US constitution explained to people, they would recoil in terror at rolling back the clock to before the govt. took care of their lives.

THEN you would see a revolution all right. Freedom is a scarier thought to a lot of people than totalitarian dictatorship. You have to worry a lot less about having to think for yourself in a totalitarian dictatorship.

If you're trying to bait me - too bad.

If not, I will just clarify.

I am not saying that Hitler was as nice as the current mob - I am saying that fundamentally the current admin is just as bad.

Was Hitler and his government any better before he started killing (in earnest) ?

The murder was just a (some would argue, inevitable) symptom.

And is it less horrific to live as a slave than to die?

To me the capital crimes his buddies committed started at or before "undesirables" were registered. The rest was but a sad but inevitable conclusion".

"The end justifies the means" is as common today as it ever was. If it weren't for slaves we wouldn't have preeety-preeety pyramids to look at. If it weren't for extortion (taxation) we wouldn't have public schools.

Hitler (I'm sure) had his reasons. Some goal that was placed in higher priority by himself and those around him so they could look at themselves in the mirror every morning, and have others go along with it. Probably backed up with "facts", maybe even real facts. Some crud like "x percent of lawyers are jewish" played over and over and over on the radio like it was some sort of problem that needed fixing - human rights be damned.

It's a trap we seem to fall for, in different forms, EVERY F***ING TIME.

A black hour near the beginning of a long night.
I hope that when all of this election wrangling is over we can see a little daylight dawning over the horizon.
