Today was my lucky day

Today I was going over to my local FFL to get a P38 transferred that I bought yesterday. After the transfer I noticed in the pistol case 2 nickel S&Ws, upon inspection I saw that the smaller one was a 19-4, in mint condition and the larger was a 29-2, also in excellent condition. As I was looking at them, the owner looks at me says "900 for the pair OTD" so believe it or not I offered him 800, and he said no so I bought them anyways. The 44 is pinned and recessed, the 357 is just recessed. Both sport the original target grips. No box or papers. I pick one up tomorrow and one next week since he said if I get them all at once the ATF would be harassing me. Here is the P38, not perfect but all matching except the magazine.

Nice score on the wheelguns!

I like the P-38. My dad brought one home from Europe (along with a Mauser .22 single shot rifle I have) but sold the darn thing for $50 some time in the mid fifties.

Pics will follow on the S&Ws. Whats a good price btw on that P38, its a numbers matching AC 43, no rust, but finish is worn. Good grips but unmarked magazine. Anyone got an idea to what these normally sell for?

Great deal!! Don't know what that deal about the ATF harassment is though. it's perfectly legal to buy 2 guns at once. I've bought 5-6 at once before and have only seen an ATF agent once in my life and he wasn't talking to me.

check with these guys http://www.p38forum.com/index.htm
They know everything there is to know about these guns.
Yours might clean up pretty good.

I have one too, but it is badly rusted, a nickel finish was applied sometime during the War before my uncle liberated it. But it sat too long in my parents' basement in damp conditions. Now I am just cleaning it up for a wall hanger.

In Rhode Island, if you buy one gun, the state NCIS background paperwork is destroyed after 7 days (or 30 days, or 60 days, I can't remember). If you buy 2 guns, the dealer has to fill out a multiple sale form which goes to the state police. To my knowledge, it is never destroyed and it lists exactly what you bought. So the RI State Police are unofficially keeping firearms records through multiple sale forms, or so my dealer tells me....

Does anyone else notice that the barrel of the 19-4 it seems to not be pinned? When did the pinning of the barrels cease? The cylinder is recessed.

I don't know the year, but the 19-3 I just sold is pinned and recessed. Perhaps that is one of the changed the between 19-3 and 19-4.
