To sell or not to sell...that is the question

Usually I like to say to be or not to be...what was the question but on the hart of the matter. I have a parts 1911 "Colt" that I purchased cheap years ago, actually it was my first 1911. I enjoyed shooing this gun and learning how it works, however I have found better and nicer 1911s to spend my time with and it doesn't get used as much as the others. So, I ask you: To sell this 1911 or not to sell this 1911? Enclosed is a picture of it as it is.

P.S. The reason Colt is in parentheses is that someone took the time to stamp "COLt" on the side and did it quite badly. Thank you.

I can't help but think with the current administration, that selling anything isn't a good idea. Course I now live in Kali, and, I remember selling Mac 10's, Detonics, AR 15's, and M1A's, always thinking I could buy them again later... Not to mention a bunch of hicap mags. Chances are you aren't going to get a lot of money for the gun, and, a beater 1911 is a great thing to have.

It would make a great 45 Super, or 22lr conversion gun, as well...

Hang on to it. Never know how long a private citizen may be able to purchase something like this and you probably wouldn't get very much for it anyway. (But then, I've never been able to sell or trade in any gun I've ever owned. They 'keep' quite well.)

Dont do it

Dont sell!!
My dad sold his 20 year old Colt without even asking if I would like it. I dont know if you have kids but any gun from a family member is better than a brand new must-have-it.

I sold my first two guns to upgrade each time. I came out ahead by a 300% profit on the first one, but I still regret selling both. I won't be selling any more of my guns. Even the one's I don't like I'm going to keep so I can pass down a nice collection to my children.

You probably wouldn't get that much for the gun so I would keep it. If the gun was valuable enough you could at least have fun with the money but in this case you would be out your first 1911 and not have much to show for it.

I've owned, bought and sold a ton of guns in my years of collecting and shooting, and if a gun has no particular sentimental or collector's value, and if I don't shoot it much, sell it. It's nothing but a hunk of steel.

Sell it and buy something you'll use. What're you saving it for, anyway?

I have to agree. If just sitting in the safe, not one you pick to go shooting, sell it to someone who may use and enjoy it more. Take that money and go buy another you're gonna shoot. Sometimes we buy something that just doesn't work out as we hoped it might.....................................ck

I agree. I've sold a couple of guns to friends that I really had no more use for to fund other purchases, & I've traded a few in. For instance, I had a LNIB Stainless Ruger Ranch that I traded in on my AR. Sold my S&W 4516-1 to move to a short 1911; sold a Taurus snub to help fund a Colt Mustang. Never looked back on any of them.

There are some guns I would have difficulty selling - I still have my first, a 6" S&W 686 - but others I have no problem with selling. If it has limited sentimental value & you can use the $$ somewhere else, I'd move it along.

-"it was my FIRST 1911."

That little buddy and you have been through alot.

Don't sell it,It costs you nothing to keep it.

If it was me,I'd load it up and place it in the house in a emergency location-so I could have it at a moments notice.

Obviously,in a small gun safe if kids are around anytime.

Since it is a "parts" gun, it will likely not bring very much if you try to sell it. I would probably keep it. At some point, you will want the proverbial "car gun" or "truck gun" or "beater pistol" and this will fit that niche very well.

My thoughts, exactly. I've bought a few that just didn't work out, so I sold them, and never looked back. I've got one that's fairly useless to me, but I inherited it from my late father, so I hang onto it for sentimental reasons. The "mistakes" that I bought, I didn't regret selling.

Ok there are enough people stat that I should keep this gun. Really and truly I just wanted to see what people thought. I have no urge to keep or get rid of this gun. If I was to find someone who wanted a 1911 and I trusted this person I would sell it to them just so they could get a taste of how wonderful a 1911 is but until then I think I'll hang on to it and enjoy it some more. By the way anyone know how to get the cuts in the side of the slide to grip better? Thanks for the help.
