To buy or not?

Have a chance to get a Tauras PT111 titanium, that has less than 100 rounds on it from a person at my work as he wants to get a newer one, this one was made in 2004, the price is $250.00....

its a 9mm which all my other pistols are except for a Bersa 380 Thunder, I am thinking that this would make a good cc weapon as it is light and a DA, so it could be chambered with the safety off, as I do not want to shoot someone with out having a real reason and this gives a few seconds to determine that...

now I know others will say I am wrong to want this factor, but it's up to me...so what do you all think, good weapon or not and why?

Don't buy

#1- It is a Taurus semi auto, too many problems have been had with them, in my opinion. Exception being the PT1911.

#2- You already have several 9mm handguns from the sound of things, get something different. Like a 45acp or 40S&W.

Whatever you do, I hope it makes you happy, these are just some thoughts.

There have been three "generations" of Mil-Pros. Taurus got it right with the 3rd gen. They perform well. My wife loves her PT-138.

NIB PT-111s are running about $350 from what I see.

Around here the best price on the pt111 is 349.00 new, I have found them cheaper on the internet, but by the time you ship to a broker and their cost it is a washout...maybe I need to look for something else....

why the 9mm as I do not want to stock too many different ammo types and 9mm around here is fairly easy to get and the prices are decent...already have quite a few boxes of different 9mm ammo at my place...

have to watch the budget one this purchase...if so where did you see the 300.00 prices at?

I know I am going to sound like a jerk (and it won't be the first or last time!), but if having a safety is the only thing keeping you from firing your gun at the wrong time, I have to question whether or not you should even be carrying a lethal weapon.

As far as the gun itself, I am not familiar with the PT111 so I cant say if it is a good deal or not or what changes have been made in the last 5 years. As long as you trust the guy at work and believe that he is sincere in his claim that the ONLY reason he wants to sell it is to get a new one, there should be no problem. Personally, I would be suspect of someone selling a gun that has been fired only about 20 times a year and wants to get rid of it, but that's just me!

In Texas they have Academy Sporting Goods. Last I saw they were $299 for the third gen Pro model.
I bought my wife one (she picked it out) last year before I went to Iraq. She's only 4'10" and says it fits her hand quit well. I had her put 150 rds of WWB through it on three different outings. They all fed and ejected just fine. She says the recoil is very managable FWIW.

The PT111 millenium Pro In my area are going for around $325.00 - $340.00 New and used around $250.00.If its not a third generation, I wouldn't buy it for that price and I bet the trade in value is under $200.00

Yes, I do use the safety, which can be off in no time if you practice it and known your gun...reach, flick and pull...as for the gun itself...you all maybe right and I need to find a new one...

thanks... the fanged one

Titanium

Keep in mind that there are always those who will tell you all you need to know about a gun that they have no personal experience with and are all too eager to regurgitate hearsay as the highest authority on a subject.

All of the price comparison's so far have been for brand new production 111's in blue. If you find one for less than $300 as suggested, the dealer is taking a loss on it. New guns today will cost from $320-$360 retail. Add another $10-$15 on top of that for a stainless slide.

That being said, none of these prices compare to what a Titanium slide costs new. For that add $100-$150 on top of a the blued for the price of a new titanium gun.

IMO, $250 for a titanium slide 111 is a great deal. I would buy it at that price in a heartbeat as I could easily sell it for $350. You can definitely get that back if the gun isn't to your liking. The Titanium slide is a full 5.0z lighter than its counterparts and that can make a big difference for daily carry. If the pistol isn't running smoothly, send it back to Taurus for repair (I know, this is where the "Taurus customer service stinks" trollers come in but right now, but they answer the phone and fix your gun in 5 weeks which is better than I can say for other manufacturers that I've had to deal with lately).

I prefer the SA trigger of the current 111 production models but if you carry with a round in the chamber you will have to be comfortable doing so in condition one.

A better option is the 24/7 Pro Titanium C but those are no more easy to find today than a new Millenium in titanium. Fortunately for me, I don't have to look for one :p

I have experience with Taurus autos and revolvers. They are not built to the same quality of other companies. Save your money and buy a S&W, Springfield, Glock, etc. I would never trust my life to a Taurus.

i like to base all my posts around empirical evidence :P

#1 its a taurus
#2 he put less than 100 rounds through it. if he liked it, he would have put more
#3 hes selling it for $250 when you can get a new one for $300
#4 its not a $1000 classic limited edition revolver or something. Its a production line gun you can find in every academy
#5 rarely do you sell a gun for a good reason
#6 its even rarer that you sell a tried and proven gun for no reason

my conclusion: its a lemon and hes trying to off load it onto you.
