To Build or Not to Build, AR-15

I recently saved up enough to purchase an AR and have been told by many that I can save a lot of money by building my own. Is it really worth it, or should I just start out with a factory rifle. Are ARs hard to put together? I am new to ARs in general, have always been an AK man myself. I just want a plain jane H-Bar type, nothin fancy.
Any suggestions

Relatively simple weapon to put together. Headspacing is about the only "problem" and that can be remedied. Try AR15.com for more details that you could ever want to know.

Just built my first AR from a Bushmaster kit and lower receiver. Took me about half an hour to assemble the lower, remember it was a first, but everything went together well and the rifle functioned perfectly with the exception of a few magazine related malfunctions. My first 5 rounds went into less than an inch at 50 meters with the iron sights. Mark / FL
