To believe in gun control, you must also believe....

Got this off of Giz's 10/22 forum:

And yet even more things you must believe, to believe in gun control....

That most people can't be trusted, so we should have laws against guns,
which most people will abide by, because they can be trusted.

That police operate in groups, with backup, which is why they need larger
capacity magazines than civilians, who must face criminals alone, and
therefore need less ammunition.

That the ACLU is good because it uncompromisingly defends certain parts of the Constitution,
and the NRA is bad, because it defends other parts of the same Constitution.

That Massachusetts is safer with bans on guns, which is why Teddy Kennedy
has machine-gun toting guards.

That a woman raped and strangled with her own panties is somehow morally superior to a
woman with a smoking gun and a dead rapist at her feet. And that she violated his civil rights
because she denied him a fair trial?

That we should ban "Saturday Night Specials" and other inexpensive guns
because it's not fair that poor people have access to guns too.

That guns should be banned because of the danger involved, and live
reporting from the battlefield, which can keep the enemy informed of troop
deployments, getting thousands of troops killed and perhaps losing a war,
is a protected act that CANNOT be compromised on.

That the right of online child pornographers to exist cannot be questioned
because it is a constitutionally protected extension of the Bill of Rights,
and the claim that handguns are for self defense is merely an excuse,
and owning them is not really protected by the Bill of Rights.

That a house with a gun is three times as likely to have a murder, just like
a house with insulin is three times as likely to have a diabetic.

That guns have no legitimate use, but alcohol does,
which is why we issue cops beer instead of guns.

....Isn't it starting to seem kinda stupid, the things ya gotta believe?!?!

Thanks Orion,

The Bill of Rights is a document of brilliance, a document of wisdom, and it is the ultimate law, spoken or not, for the very concept of a society that holds liberty above the desire for ever greater power. -Me

A few more:

That because the government cannot protect its citizens from violent crime, it must take away from them the means to protect themselves.

That an armed felon who breaks into an occupied house in the dead of night can be reasoned with ... and that a homeowner having the means to stop him would escalate the situation.

That being killed by a thug with an axe or a baseball bat isn't as bad as being killed by one with a gun.

That an inanimate object can be "evil" in and of itself -- regardless of who is holding it and for what purpose.

That Rosie O'Donnell's children need and deserve an armed bodyguard, but yours do not.

That some guns are "too big" and others "too small" to be protected by the 2nd Amendment -- but there are neither any newspaper syndicates too big, nor any weekly rags too small, to be protected by the 1st.
