Titanium Revolver Gas CUtting

Are Titanium revolvers more prone to gas cutting than steel? I have a Taurus 617Ti with less than 200 rounds through it and noticed while cleaning it today that it has gas cuts on topstrap. Not shooting hot loads, cylinder gap is fine, none of my other 357s (including another Taurus) are showing cutting from the same loads. Is the concensus still that gas cutting will stop at a certain point and is not a real problem?

Any thoughts on this would be greatly appreciated,

Woody

Smith and Wesson places a steel shield at the critical gas flow area on their new Scandium revolvers. I believe the aluminum is cutting, not the titanium cylinder.

gas cutting

chief jones:
I shoot S&W 44 mag 629 6.5 inch barrel with full house loads. after several thousand rounds I notice some gas cutting on the top strap. I called S&W and the technical expert assured me that this very common with full loads and the cut will reach a certain depth and go no further. I have continued shooting the gun with the same loads and that seems to be the case so far.

Gas cutting would continue until the area opened up by the gas flame is so large that it permits all the gas to escape freely. After that point, there would be so little restriction on the gas jet that it would escape through the larger opening. Once the pressure of the jet is low enough, it shouldn't cut metal.
