.... and here's my first. I just received this today from Rock Island Auction. All matching numbers (made 1862), quite a decent cylinder scene, good action and a nice even patina. These seem to be getting more expensive all the time.

Sorry, Photobucket's being really uncooperative with the orientation of these pics.

Really nice!

Here is a photo of one that a friend found after a brush fire a couple of years ago near the site of an 1863 Indian/Militia battle in eastern California. Appears to have a dovetailed silver front sight on the barrel:

Bishop,

That is a cool relic! I remember seeing a rusted dragoon encased in a lucite cube back in the 60's and displayed on a wall. That always intrigued me.

Maybe I'll find my least used Colt replica and go bury it for about a hundred years just to see how it turns out...

1849 plowed up in a field here by my grandfather around 1941. The owners name and a date are scratched into the butt, and I've managed to find out a little about him - he was a stage agent in present day southwest Montana and I've located three letters dated 1865 he wrote to his boss, Nat Stein, in the University of Utah's manuscript library. Nat Stein was a VP of Overland.

The hammer & trigger are still free, the loading lever still functions, and the barrel assembly can be separated from the frame, but the cylinder is rusted solid on the base pin.

Jbar:

That is an absolutely good buried find!

Ain't no way I'll ever come close to that.

Just wishing I could be so lucky...
