Tired of the Buckmark Bashing on TFL.

I don't get it. Nearly every thread on .22lr pistols either bashes the Buckmark or considers it 2nd class and I truely don't understand why.

My wife purchased the Standard Buckmark Micro for a .22lr to shoot as an aid to pistol training/shooting at minimal ammo cost. With quality ammo it is extremely reliable and accurate.

In fact, I can shoot her Buckmark as well as any .22lr RIFLE I have shot. I can shoot a 10in rock one handed from 75 yards out with her Buckmark. At 15ft I can put 10 rounds into a paper target smaller then the size of a dime.

I have handed this pistol to others that have never shot one. They can also hit long distance targets right from the first squeeze of the trigger.

What the hell am I missing??? The Buckmark has the same control layout as a Hi-Power or 1911 in .22lr caliber. Yes, the control feel is different, but the location and balance is nearly identical.

I can not see any reason that the Buckmark is so 2nd class to other .22lr pistols on the market other then PRICE. My wifes Buckmark Micro can outshoot any shooter I have handed it to.

Do we have a fluke? I like the Ruger pistol (Can't remember the model #)and its appearance and quality are very nice. I like the Sig Hammerili when handled at the gun store. But, I can't see how most people would find them similar in balance and operation to other major caliber pistols. Nor, can I see how most people could outshoot even the lowly regard Buckmark.

No this isn't really a flame. This is what I have observed and really I don't get it. If you are super shooter, I can see a finely tuned .22lr pistol. However, as I stated, I haven't yet found a shooter that could outmatch the wifes Buckmark.

Infact, it shoots so well, I didn't plan to, but I WANT ONE TOO !!!

What am I missing?

Huh? Are you sure you're talking about TFL posts about the Buckmark? There may be a few that criticize it, but the vast majority of reports are positive. I did a search for the last 5 days and found about 98% positive and the other 2% were neutral. For example; [Link to invalid post]

I certainly didn't find a trend that would make me even consider writing a post asking why people were so negative about it. Like you yourself said, "What am I missing?"

There is no TFL Policy against the Buckmark... or any other pistol for that matter.
That goes for Glocks and Ruger Autos as well.

But I'm working on the Ruger rule...

The only thing I've ever heard negative about a Buckmark was in Gun Tests Magazine.

They thought it shot well and was reliable, but considered the design -- which let parts and springs go flying when the grips were removed -- to have some problems.

(But, alas, that can happen with more than Buckmarks.)

I have never sensed that Buckmarks are bashed here, actually just he opposite. If you want to know bashed, get yourself a Mini 14 and post about how much you like it.

George, Good one! Wonder how many that one snuck bye.
Regarding the topic I am very pro buckmark and both of mine can outshoot many .22 rifles. In fact, I scaled back to two .22s and the buckmark and S&W 41 are the keepers.

Add one more voice to the chorus. I love my Buckmark and have never been shy about praising it on TFL. Some folks have said they prefer a different pistol, but I don't recall anybody knocking the Buckmark.

Gotta chime in on this one!

Buckmark Plus is my FAVORITE of four handguns I own. I eagerly look forward to each shooting session. It has taught me alot about sight picture, trigger control, and follow thru.
Its easy to work on, handles wonderfully, amazingly accurate (all ten shots in a one inch square at 10 yds), and looks cool too!
Like the other guys say, I haven't noticed Buckmark being beat on but I have noticed it seems like the 22/45 is favored. Trying to be totally objective here, but I honestly cannot understand that, the Browning should be the one getting the accolades over the Ruger.

Yep, Buckmarks are terrible. Pack all of the up and send them to me right now. I promise to make sure they don't ever annoy anyone ever again. 'sides, the 2 Buckmarks I already have are lonesome. ;)
I know they are cause they've been yakking it up with the other 5 Brownings in the safe.

All kidding aside. I really don't ever see more than one or two comments about Buckmarks that say anything other than good things. I smell something fishy about this topic ;). Kind of a dare or something.

I have mentioned before that I personally prefer my 22/45 over my Buckmark. I just shoot the 22/45 better, and it's been through a lot of ammo in the last year w/out a hitch(close to 30K rounds now). When it hit the 25K round point, I could have bought another 22/45 to replace it, but chose to go Buckmark instead. I'm real happy with both. My best groups run about 2 to 3 inches at 7 yards with the Buckmark. It isn't the gun. Last week another shooter put 10 rounds into a dime sized hole with it. I kinda like that. The 22/45 was getting a bit boreing, and it gives me something to shoot for. (all puns apply)

I have a Buckmark 5.5 Field that I have never shot. It is back at the factory right now having the barrel replaced because the screws that hold the sight rail on the barrel were drilled/tapped crooked, which put the sight off center with the bore. This is a quality control issue and not one of poor weapon design or functionality. I have heard nothing but good about the Buckmark and that is why I bought one. I don't begrudge this one quality issue against Browning or Buckmark in general. When I get the gun back I know I will be very happy with it.

hahaha this turned out to be the Buckmark are people too "AA" convention.

My son's first pistol was an as-new six-inch Buckmark I got from a friend. This was back when he was in late teens, and it seemed to be a significant thing when he had his OWN pistola and not just shooting Dad's handguns.

He was already a pretty good pistol shot but the .22 helped him polish his skills. When we've shot up most of the .45 handloads, he works on quick and dirty with the Buckmark, and is just flat deadly with it. On the TX-PT sihlouette target, he makes headshots QUICK at 25 yards, and with a rest stays on the chest area at 100 (yeah, ONE HUNDRED) yards. If it was just a LITTLE bit smaller, he could simply carry it and leave the .45 or Kel Tec P-11 at home.

And, I was so impressed with his Buckmark that I got one with the 4.5 inch barrel for myself. I like Matt's older model, with the flat stocks better than mine with the semi-thumb rest.
