Tips for off hand shooting?

Okay, so, I tried a Glock 22 (.40) today and while I thought was a solid gun (I love Glocks) I dont care for .40.

but thats beside the point. I tried one handed shooting in my right (dominant) hand it was decent, but when i tried it on my off-hand I swear my arm moved about a foot.

what can I do to fix this? just practice?

"...just practice?..." Partly, but building up the strength of your off hand will help too. Get a cheap rubber ball, one of those red, white and blue ones will do nicely, and cut it in half. Squeeze it repeatedly whenever you can. Builds up your grip strength.

Get an AACK .22 unit for your Glock Tatsumi67. True the unit cost around $300 but it will save you a bunch of money in ammo! The .22 lr unit just swaps the slide and they have .22 mags that fit right in the Glock 22.

You can do all kinds of one handed shooting cheeply. Same grip, same trigger pull, same sights. Only you shoot .22s!

That and dry fireing are the two best ways of learning to shoot off hand, either hand, both hands, and shoot fast.

Cant the weapon to the inside a little bit, about 2 O'clock and lean into it. Thats what I was tought at CQB School. It works for me. practice Pastie drills.

First you need to know how to practice. Best instruction made on one hand shooting comes from the USAMU Pistol Marksmanship Manuel. Put out by the best shooters in the world.

Whats better yet its free. I have in on .pdf file. PM me with your e-mail address and I'll send it to you.

The only thing I ask in return is that you share it, pass it on.

I was tough and practiced with a snap cap and a dime. Insert the snap cap and shuck the pistol then balance the dime on the rib then aim and pull the trigger without dropping the dime.
Hope this helps.

Return to fundamentals. At LFI Mas has you do a significiant percent of shooting with the non-dom hand. Why, you stand a good chance of being hit in the strong hand because the BG will focus on the threat which is your pistol.
Soooo
1. Crush Grip
2. eye on sight
3. pull trigger smoothly.

Get snap caps and observing the above fundamentals dry fire 'until your fingers bleed.'

Then range fire. If you can afford the .22 add on do it. No one in my LFI class needed it and even the 'new' female shooter was nailing the A zone on the IDPA target by the 3rd session.

USAMU

As mentioned by kraigwy, the USAMU Pistol Marksmanship Guide is a great resource for one handed shooting. The key is to find a position of equilibrium that your muscles don't have to work hard to maintain. Less muscle strain = steadier.

I have uploaded the guide to the internet. It can be downloaded here.

nice

KW: Very nice target. Was that shot one-handed or two? I ask because it used to be that offhand meant one hand, unsupported. It seems to have changed to mean shooting with two hands unsupported. In either case ten shots in one hole is fine shooting.
What I see called the "offhand" was called the "weak" hand. Alas, things change.

Here's one from me, though shot at 50 feet. Two strings of five shots, each string fired in 20 seconds. Too bad that I can't do it all the time; just every now and then. Orthopedic grips help repeatability but then one is limited to the one hand, a problem for the practical shooter, I think.

One Hand Un-Supported

In keeping with the orginal post, This was shot using one hand only. Open
iron sights. This was shot in compentition at the Nationals and took first place

Ist Place

First place. I'll bet you did. It's an impressive target. I'm sure that you shoot them more often than I do. Was that timed or rapid?
