Timney Vs. X Pro

After adjusting and messing around with the X-Pro trigger on my 7mm08 project rifle for weeks, I finally dropped a new Timney Trigger group in last night. The X-Pro had gotten to the point that the pull was never consistant and much heavier than I like even with the set screw adjusted almost all the way out. If the Timney and the Accutriggers on my Savage 10's are 2lbs then the X-Pro was at least 6lbs.

I dropped the Timney on a snap cap last night and it was a night and day difference. Crisp, consistent, no creep and a huge upgrade.

I'm really not surprised that you found the Remington trigger horrible and had to replace it to get the feel/pull weight where you want it. That's why I like my savages and tikka so well!

I am. I have yet to own a Rem 700 trigger that I couldn't get to 2 1/2 lbs with no creep or overtravel. That would be among 7 rifles, one of which had the X-Mark Pro. It adjusted just fine like all the others.

I also own 6 Savages, 5 of which have the AccuTrigger. 2 are great. 3 are fair but creepy with some over travel. Still very useable, but not the end all to be all for triggers.

I'm OKAY with the x-pro trigger but I'm gonna replace it. The best I've gotten mine to adjust was down to 3 1/2 pounds and not the 2 - 2 1/2 that I prefer. Something about the set screw sticking out that just doesn't seem right to me. I'm always concerned about losing the darn thing and them I'm screwed (no pun intended).

Same here. I've adjusted all my 700's triggers to virtual perfection.

Just did a couple for my buddy last weekend. Mid 90's models. Both adjusted beautifully.

I use a Dremel to shorten the screw and then thread lock it back in. My X-Mark triggers went to 2.5 LBS easily. They were unpredictable below that. I have never had to replace triggers in my 700's. I suspect there is a certain amount of pro-aftermarket hype... but that's okay. it's all fun.

I had adjusted this X-Pro out to the point where the set screw was about to fall out and it wouldn't have hit 3 lbs. I took the trigger out, cleaned it, and put it back in. It would break easy one shot and heavy the next. Honestly I didn't want to keep fooling with it. The Timney I have on another rifle has never been adjusted since I installed it so that's what I went with. My Savage Accutriggers have never been adjusted and hold the same break. If you have good luck with your X-Pro's then great, mine was a continual adjustment issue, especially since I prefer a 2-2.5lb trigger.

Fair enough. Sounds like the spring was hung up in there? Or perhaps too long?

I never touch the sear engagement screws, and I actually remove the screw from the trigger blade completely, as it never worked (insignificant changes) and I believe is just to keep "tweakers" happy.

I couldn't get my Adjustable X-Mark Pro trigger to adjust less than than 7 lb for whatever reason despite turning all the adjustments screws on my Remington 700 SPS Tactical. Perhaps I got a dud factory trigger.

For a little more than $100, I dropped in a Timney trigger set by the factory at 2 lbs and have never looked back. Life is way too short to deal with crappy triggers.

I love my 700 CDL 30-06, but I had the same issue with the x pro (it was bought new 1/11).

It adjusted nicely down to 2 1/2#, but within 5 shots, was back up over 4 1/2.

I wasn't the one adjusting it (because I sure wasnt comforatble with doing it my self), so maybe my friend didn't either :)

Just felt more comforatable having new Timney put in-it's a great trigger.

I've done work on triggers, including some Remington triggers. My recent 'X-Mark Pro' was high with the adjustment screw all the way out, then the pull also varied on my trigger gage by over 1/2 a lb. I put a Timney in & all is well.

I just ordered a new Timney, straight from the factory, for my Mark X Zastava. It's a model #301 light weight with safety,,, cant wait, I love those Timney triggers,,:)

I got a chance to shoot it some this weekend with the new trigger in. There was a HUGE difference between the Timney and the X-Pro. Consistency was by far better and, well, consistent. 2lbs evey time, crisp too. No screw protruding into the shoe to worry about removing a hunk of flesh.

I hear all these horror stories about the X-Mark Pro trigger but mine adjusted down to 3 lbs. like it was supposed to and is consistent and crisp. I check it with a trigger pull gauge and it's as good as any other factory trigger I've had. I've had Timney triggers on rifles and I won't argue that they're super nice but I don't need one on this 700. It's "good enough".

Mine is down to a 1lb and isn't bad but it's just not that great of a trigger. As soon as i can get back to my rifle i'm putting a huber Concepts two stage in it.

My X-mark stays at 3 lbs and feels fine to me. The little screw was kinda bothering me so I took it all the way out. It still works fine.

Got that Timney today, it's a #301 Featherweight Deluxe, Install went fine, set the weight at 2 3/4 lbs and it breaks like glass... beautiful man!!:)
